hi guys, first post, just bought a p reg 1.9td, and cant hear or feel the turbo kicking in (not that i know particularly what i'm listening out for but even revving it with me head under the bonnet, it just sounds like my old 306 1.9d, albeit somewhat louder)
this whole cars-with-turbos thing is new to me, so i've been reading through loads of posts about turbos not boosting & leaks on the hoses & wastegates stuck open, but my haynes manual is surprisingly unforthcoming about all things turbo-related, so i dont even know particularly what i'm looking for or where, and every time i get halfway down a page of posts i realise i've been reading one about a petrol engine, etc etc etc
so many apologies if this has been answered before (if it has, please can someone direct me to the right place) but can someone tell me where i should start diagnosing the fault (if there are any posts in existence where some kind soul has included any pictures i think i may just die happy)
soz if thats just garbage, its past my bed time =)
thanks in advace
eddy

Re: 1.9td - not boosting
Hi eddy and wellcom
You should be able to feal the turbo boosting, at around 2000rpm with your foot down the engine should start to build a little more power, by the time you get to 2500rpm feal it a bit more as it will now be boosting properly. This is best tested at night with a car behind you, as you should see some smoke in the rear vue mirror (well you shouldn't but I've never seen a TD that doesn't) as the turbo kicks in.
That said it wont push you back in your seat but you should be able to feal it surge a little harder than it did at lower revs.

Re: 1.9td - not boosting
thanks mark, well i certainly dont feel any increase in acceleration until i hit almost 3000rpm, and even that's only a very slight increase...
just had me head under the bonnet of a mate's 406 estate with the 1.9 td and have now heard the turbo spinning, mine is definately not making that whoosing noise, so what things are likely to cause the turbo not to spin? other than the turbo itself being siezed up of course =)
