I can haz a new car too....!
Here is my recent purchase - hopefully it'll last a good few years.
It's not a classic as such, but a 1998 model so kinda old ish. I very nearly bought a much older one but I don't really have the time/skills/patience to look after it - this one should require less of my precious* time
I've already been banging on the door to 'old age' and now it seems I've stepped effortlessly inside
So far, no medical hiccups have yet to occur..

That does look mighty tidy and unlike modern junk, you'll be able to see out of it.
I get it. It's a nice looking car with masses of space and potentially good for quite a few years yet.
Enjoy!
(Bit too big for me to tow behind the camper, otherwise I could have been tempted).

It has the 2.3 turbo engine - rear wheel drive - wcpgw..!
There are niggles to sort, like all cars that are over 20 years old, but the Volvo forum is okay for information, although harder to navigate than this excellent forum

Nowt wrong wiv RWD.
A significant proportion of active forum members have made the change, (well, there's at least 3 of us).
Safer bet than AWD I reckon.
Pardon my Volvo ignorance - that is a V70 isn't it?
Local car too I see.

Re: I can haz a new car too....!
It's a 940 - so the model before the whole V40, V70, V90, Mondeo stuff, the Volvo forum members have expressed there fondness for the later 9-- series.
It's basically a bigger version of the 740 ( V70 in later guise ) although lots of parts are interchangeable.
Local number plates to Bournemouth were LJ, JT, PR, RU and FX - prior to 2001
Only £150 a year to insure too

Re: I can haz a new car too....!
Bimmer cost me £260 to insure, thought I'd done well
mind you the camper's a private HGV, so £165 a year road tax.

Re: I can haz a new car too....!
Look's nice Kelv,
I had a 740 glt 2.3 turbo many moons ago it was the thirstiest car I've ever owned
Circa 22 mpg, I sold it after one month.
& I can top trump you both on the insurance & tax (as in both cost me more )
But it worked out to within ten pounds of what it cost me to tax & insure both the Coupe & the estate

Re: I can haz a new car too....!
I'm not expecting great economy to be honest, but the Coupe was only slightly more to insure, but also doing about 20mpg round town, less if I drove it as a V6 should be driven.....

Re: I can haz a new car too....!
I guess the 406 will still be your daily, so Volvo mpg is less of a concern.
(For example the camper does about 15-17 mpg, but at < 3k miles/year fuel cost isn't huge).
Main thing is you enjoy it.
I note that since I started feeding the BM's 99 octane habit, oil prices have reached a 2-year high.
