Thanks but it seems painfully slow this end. Still, early days, lots of planning, careful measuring and decision making. Once I get it all worked out I'll make wooden patterns for everything which should speed things up a bit. I've just pulled the strap off which was holding the diagonal up, also put my shoulder against it all and gave it a shove - looks like the pathetic welds are actually holding but I'll back them up at a later date. I'll also make an angle iron flange for the bottom of the upright and pin it into the floor, probably something similar at the top screwed into the beam to stop it falling sideways. The steps will also be screwed into the wall at their far ends. This is probably complete overkill but it's going to be mighty heavyImpressive progress
