Cheers guys, he trouble was it was hard to see what was going on with her because she just ran away all the time, every time i found her she moved somewhere else. When she stopped doing that though, it was obvious she'd given up.

Cats all have their own personalties and idiosyncrasies, sometimes Billie was such an affectionate cat, she'd just jump on a chair and want big lovvin' but the rest of the time you could feck right off.

Floods! You sure? I know a lot of these tiny Walbro etc. carbs have some sort of control valve in the bottom, I'd imagine if this is stuck or broken then it could flood it. Pull the base off and have a squint? Also, dodgy diagrams can give all sorts of issues, if it's sat with fuel in it for a few years they could be borked.

Modern fuel is crap, too much ethanol etc. If left it'll just sit in the fuel system eating all the seals and turning into incombustible gloop. If it's not going to be used for a month or more we're advised (by Walbro) to drain the tank and run 'em dry. Seems a bit excessive to me so mine only get run dry at the end of the year.

I spent several hours trying to get a lawnmower to run right, only to discover the petrol can was mostly full of water cos my son left the cap off in the rain......

My McCulloch 2-stroke strimmer cuts out with the slightest throttle but only after idling for a long time; literally squeeze the throttle and it stops. The internet told me to try a decent 2-stroke oil so I bought some Oregon stuff, not tried a new mix yet though  running on Super Unleaded seems preferable too.

Didn't we have someone with a similar problem with his diesel 406 a few years back? Found a drum of "diesel" on a building site with unknown origins...

I once borrowed a McCulloch strimmer off a mte, do you think I could get it started? SO I asked the Oracle (me dad) for advice and he suggested borrowing a strimmer off another mate that didn't own a McCulloch... That actually sounds like one of the behaviours I got from my Husqvarna the first couple of years I had it, I even tried the later carb for it, to no effect. Then my dad told me to feed it 25:1 instead of 50:1 - tranformed  I eventually read in the handbook (like you've all read yours cover to cover  ) that it's 50:1 unless your not using Husqvarna's own speshul 2-stoke oil, in which case it's 40:1. These days everything gets 25:1, I can't be having with 2 bottles of premix hanging about.

Incidently, I was once told (probably by The Oracle) not to cheap out on 2-stoke oil. It's a lot like putting cheap 'n' crappy engine oil in your motor.

Finally, a while back I bought a litre of Briggs & Stratton 2-stoke oil, it's in a black bottle so I didn't know until I opened it that it doesn't have any red dye in it. What's the problem with that? Every time I go to tip some fuel in I look at the bottle and ask myself "did I mix this or is it neat?" I may give it away...

My Mcbolloch says 40:1 on it's fuel bottle/tank but you reckon a stronger mix is better, don't you get smoke though?

Not a lot. Tbh when I'm a-fiddling with the mixture I like to see a tiny bit of smoke, I don't trust these things or myself to get it 100% right and I'd rather be on the rich end of the scale and use a little too much fuel than make a hole in a piston.

Mix up a little (maybe half a litre with, umm, 200ml per 5 litres would be 20ml for 0.5l) and see what she runs like.

I have a proper 1ltr mixing bottle with a range of 'mixes' marked on it so it's quite easy to adjust the recipe.

NO need to smug Welton. Might I gently point out that metric measurements will be phased out from 11:00 29/03/2019?

Anyone failing to transition to imperial units thereafter is liable to summary removal from these shores.

Do they come in 5 litres? I think the mix on the Homelite works out at 16:1, do they cover that? (It pre-dates 2.stroke oil but hey, runs fine on 25:1)
