307 Diagnostics

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

307 Diagnostics

Post by GingerMagic »

I have been ask by a fellow Pug owner if I can do a diagnostic on his 307...

He had bought it for his Daughter but has had lots of trouble with it, so has been kinda forced to buy it back and get her something else.

What kind of things should I look out for when the car is on PP2000? I think the car is a petrol, maybe a 2001 model?

This will be done on Saturday afternoon, so I will only have a couple of hours to look at it....

Thanks in advance, Kelv.

The diagnostic socket is behind the solid panel around the headlight level adjuster. You have to take the entire panel off and it's really not obvious from the outside!

Which engine is it? And do we know what's wrong?

Hi Jon, thanks for the tip.
As far as I'm aware it is mostly an immobiliser fault, although I will do a proper Global test. Obviously being a 307 there are many gremlins, so I may be some time....

Hopefully a key-recode should sort it then Kelv. Otherwise I'd suspect the antenna around the lock barrel.

The 307s do seem quite variable, if you get a lemon the faults never end, but ours has been a model of reliability. Had it from 8k miles and it went past 90k last weekend - never missed a beat. And the 1.6i 16V petrol is surprisingly nippy.

Good luck

Sadly the immobiliser fault happens when driving and the car stops....
I believe the chap has been investigating this for a while, asking the right questions etc, just needs the diagnostics to confirm I guess.
iIs the DAM code easy to find?

Weird, I thought once the engine was running the immob system was disabled! Still, hopefully diagnostics should provide the answer (or at least a clue).

Yep, DAM code is on the door sticker, same as D9 406s :)

Update;
I looked at the 307 today, it is a 51 plate 1.4 petrol. The BSI and ECU were fine - which was a weight off Nicks mind - and the only major fault was a' Downstream Oxygen Sensor' and the Oil temperature gauge was sticky. The others ( which there were not many ) were intermittent.

The car did in fact turn itself off when it was running - then it wouldn't start again as the immobiliser wouldn't turn off...?? The remote locking was working and the 'key in ignition' beeping was intermittent. I suspect the transponder ring is on its way out - which was clarified by tapping it and this making it work and then start the car.

So, 2 questions. Would the transponder failing make the engine stop? If it looses its connection to the ECU would it turn off? I assumed the transponder was used just for a few seconds to start the car then it went dormant.
Next question, if I replace the transponder ring, do I need to program it to the car? Nick has the PIN-code which is handy too.

Any info I get I will pass on.

I honestly don't know, but I would be surprised if a transponder problem would stop it once it's running.
Maybe the oil temperture is one of the things that will shut the engine down?

Hi, yes I was wondering if the engine had some sort of fail-safe device for when things went wrong.

On PP2000 the actuators test didn't work on the coolant temperature gauge but did on the tacho and speedo..??

What Nick and I have sort of suggested is to check the transponder for dry solder joints and clean the coolant temp sensor to see if it helps.
