Steve why would the yoyo need new injectors? that's very unusual - cleaning maybe but not replacing surely?
That there linky was to do with Winter Tyres from where I'm sitting and I couldn't find any post from your good self? and just how many adverts do they show?
That Lada injin looks quite new, I'm guessing it's not your normal kinda injin in there?

I don't know why it would need new injectors either, but with that bluddy car all normal assumptions are out the window
Apparently it wasn't just dodgy spray patters either, they were injecting far too much fuel. I've still not heard anything either *checks ebay for the going rate for a kidney*
Link was because on the RAV forum, like here, there are those who think winter tyres are a pointless gimmick and that was a convert who'd tried them.
Perhaps there just isn't enough of the engine showing - http://www.lada.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... 289#p71802
Interesting about the XUDs though, I didn't realise until I was doing a search of the car ads yesterday and came across a couple. Most here are 1.6/1.7 petrols with LPG.

Re: and today i have mostly been...
Oh I see about the tyres, all I've noticed so far is that the front wheels don't 'let go' like they used to on the summer tyres. There's been no real Ice or Snow yet to test them but even driving in this morning it was raining heavy at 1 deg C and the car felt normal, like the road was dry. I'm happy they're on the car.
I can't see you needing to replace injectors, have you enquired about having them cleaned? they get sent away and put on a rig and 'pulsed' through their operating range until a fine spray mist is achieved. Probably the crap fuel out there isn't helping much.
Lot's of owners on the Volvo forum have had injectors cleaned and reported *much* better mpg's (enough to recover the cleaning cost quite quickly).
It must be a pain in the ass financially, you'd expect a car of that age/cost/repute to be very kind to you

Re: and today i have mostly been...
The question was did the injectors need a good clean or were they completely fubared? Anyway, I just got a call from Goran and it looks like they cleaned up ok. HoWeVeR... the top lamda has now died
Which means another 2 or 3 weeks wait while I get another one from GB... It's less than a year old but if I have to send it back to them so they can test it it's going to be an even longer wait. I'll just have to tell them it died without going into details and see what happens.

Oh ffs, 3 weeks?
I don't think you can use 'Universal' lambda's on Jap systems?
Trouble now is you'll be forever keeping an eye on that bloody dash board
motoring should not be like this
I hope you can sort something out mate.

Re: and today i have mostly been...
Me too
I've just been on to them and yes, they want it back to test it so what I suggested was I buy another one off of them, send the old one back for them to test and if it proves faulty they'll refund me. I suspect they'll soon spot it's been incinerated but I suppose I should try anyway. The guy also says I should make absolutely sure it is the lamda as it's very unusual for them to have to replace a faulty Denso. Hmm, now I remember reading somewhere on the RAV forum that the earth sometimes goes faulty
Something to suggest to the mechanic I guess.
We tried with a universal to start out with but it produced even more faults...

Re: and today i have mostly been...
It's ba-ack
The problem now seems to be the upper air/fuel lamda is intermittent - when it's ok there are no problems and it has passed an emissions test by a wide margin, but every now again it goes faulty and the car throws up the fault lights. I'm not sure I go about proving an intermittent fault to World Car Parts (where I got the lamda from). In the meantime the mechanic says it'll be ok for me to disconnect/reconnect the battery to clear the fault and there's no danger of killing the new cat.
So he's worked on it for 2 days, extract dead cat & replace with new metal one, remove, clean, test & replace injectors, 20 litres of fuel - 190 quid
I'm amazed, I think it has a lot to do with Goran who will now be giving the guy some word of mouth advertising and partly due to him not actually permanently clearing the fault. Still, I do feel a bit guilty but at least they had a good time driving it:

Unfortunatly the lights came on on my journey home (about 20km) and again when I dropped my other mate off after he drove the Pug home (loved it btw
), both times cleared by dis/reconnecting the battery but I can tell that's going to get old very quickly.
I did read on the RAV forum once that lamda faults can be due to a bad earth, so I'll investigate that first before I do anything else.
Oh, and I guess I should give it a wash

I wonder if this is something you can fix then if it's an earth problem? maybe with the help of Rav forums.
Every hour you spend poking about is an hours labour cost saved too.

Re: and today i have mostly been...
There's very little info that I can find, just stuff about wiring in another earth to the connector. No wiring diagrams that I can find either. It also just seems to affect the earlier engine with 4 lamdas but that aint gonna stop me looking

I guess all it needs is some electrical interference it can't handle.
As I'm sure you'll know from your previuos jobs, it's just as easy to create this kind of snag by earthing things you shouldn't and creating alternate paths for other stuff to earth through.
Have you got a scope? worth looking for anything 'noisy' on the ecu connector pins?
Failing that wash it and add some hydrocarbons to the final rinse, then have a well-earned Hamlet.

No scope
All I have left is a (completely out of warranty) Fluke. Tomorrow I'll be cleaning up the connector and all the earths that I can see. Or I may just stay indoors and watch the snow piling up on the car instead.
