Cold weather MPG's - you gotta love the 1.9 engine!!

Post by gumby6371 »

Since my last fill up I've changed glow plugs due to the ridiculous hunting and plumes of white smoke filling the driveway in a morning. thought it probably best to check the tyre pressures on friday as it was feeling a bit wallowy in the bends, sure enough they were all low but the OSR was 9 psi under!! feels much more solid on the road with air in the tyres
Running a 50/50 veg mix you inevitably lose a few MPGs as well.

So...... filled up yesterday after a month of exclusively short stop start town driving expecting the worst.....34.9 miles per gallon :cheesy:

Now the book says 37mpg round town straight out of the showroom so my 16 year old car running with knackered glow plugs and low tyre pressure on 50% veg oil is most defenitely in my good books :cheesy:

Wish I had a time machine to see what a 16 year old Prius can do?

oh hang on... they'll be rotting in a breakers with fubard battery packs after 10 years so scratch that comment

Last week doing outside lane motorway driving all week my mondeo done 39.9mpg! I almost cried. Today I also done my tyre pressures but at a different garage and found all my tyres were 14psi down! Car feels so much better now. Think I will have to complain about the garage I usually do my tyres in!

I've only managed 33MPG on the last couple of runs in my 2.2....

Although I was towing a trailer with the race car on, and a boot of tools.

I never trust the gauges on air machines, I always verify it with my Sealey Gauge:

Of course, since my tyres are filled with expensive Nitrogen I've not had to top them up for 18 months :o

Idont think many people have Acurate Tyre preasures

look at it logicly,

unladen 38psi for eg
laden 42psi for eg

do we stop after each journey fully loaded and let air out of the tyres

idont, its to frikin cold for that,

Saw something on the news last week where ALL new cars from 2014? must be fitted with tyre pressure monitoring systems by law.......what fun, even more stuff to go wrong or fail an MOT for you

Sod that, my mate had to fit a new alloy on his 308 thanks to a pot hole and the sensor could not be removed from the old alloy, Peugeot wanted £78 just for the part!
5 mins with PP2000, no more sensors, no more errors :)

The article was highlighting that about only 50% of motorists knew what the 'Low Pressure' warning light actually meant - someone actually thought it meant you were approaching a Cattle Grid, others thought it meant the engine was overheating

Warning you have put the pan on a gas hob much to powerful for that size pan.. High risk of overheating.

Two weeks to the day and another top up, only covered 8 miles less than last time 272 miles all short journeys and no towing.
272 miles covered £44 and a far better 38.7mpg.

Not cheap towing a caravan is it.
