Ebay Refunds
Anyone help me with this?
My fiancee sent an item she sold via EBay recorded delivery to the buyer in Prestatyn in Denbighshire. Royal Mail must have had their eyes closed the day it was delivered as even though there is a signature on their track and trace page which the buyer has seen, it has ended up in Holloway in London and god knows who has it now. Where do we stand as regards to refunding the buyer? Do we have no choice but to refund it, even though it wasn't our fault? I don't think there is very much compensation available for items that are sent recorded.

Re: Ebay Refunds
this is one of reasons i dont do ebay anymore. to many fraudsters saying they never got the item and royal mail are ..well.......... a waist of f*cking time .
i think if the parcel is now lost you have no choice but to refund the buyer and you yourself (the receipt holder) makes a claim from royal mail

Re: Ebay Refunds
I've checked the royal mail website and I don't think we'll get much back from Royal Mail. It was just a cheap old engagement ring which she made £20 from, but it looks like jewellery is exempt, even though its gone to completely the wrong address. I filled in the recorded delivery book at work myself and I checked the address on the package, just have no idea what they did! I shall check with Ebay if I can but looks like she will have no choice but to refund it.

Re: Ebay Refunds
The Royal Mail has an obligation to deliver your items of mail to the destination address. That is the service they are providing you in exchange for your money, and they have failed to do this. They have in fact delivered it to another location entirely, and have marked it as such on their tracking website.
Therefore you (as a customer) have not been given the service you paid for, and you have a legitimate reason to take it up with trading standards.
Refund the buyer of the item and apologize (so that you don't lose out on your eBay feedback), and use that as clout in whatever correspondence you use with the Royal Mail, or any other organization you have to deal with to get this sorted.

theres a jail there, perhaps tell royal snail to locate postman whos had it and throw him in a cell there,
idont trust royal mail -they have un-vetted agency workers working for them
as to where you stand with ebay, that depends on how youve worded /listed the postage, did you offer insurance,
ithink you will find, if its lost in post, its Kay sera sera,
aslong as youve got proof its been sent theres not a thing they can do,
Re: Ebay Refunds
Hmm just athought but worth an ask,
contact royal mail and see if the person named at the address who shouid of received the parcel (goods)
as put a post redirect form in, this couid be a scam iwouid look into it
idont think royal mail are dumb enough to send something to wrong address if its recorded delivery or a tracked item
im guessing a redirect to other address form as gone in, very easily done

it dont just happen on ebay happens other places too,leestudd30 wrote:I never thought of the redirection thing, are buyers on Ebay really that bad these days?

As with all parcels letters etc, (Unless, its stamped D.N.R on the envelope)
for eg, aletter couid come through your door, its not for you its not in your name, but you know where that person lives,
just get apen, crossout the address and just write in the new one of where the person lives,
put it in post box royal mail will deliver it, no stamp needed,
same with parcels they will deliver it,
idont agree with there lack in security,
using a courier is a much better option ithink if your selling on ebay!
Iwouid write on parcels, Do not Re-direct, and write your return address on any parcels.
also never write or put fragile on a parcel, they play foot ball in the sorting office

My father n law worked for r/m for over 40yrs hes told me what they get up to
and what does happen with some christmas cards not that he got involved with what went on

Re: Ebay Refunds
well I'm getting nowhere fast with royal mail lol. My fiancee refunded the money anyway but royal mail are so evasive/useless when it comes to asking what happened to the package. All they keep telling me is to fill in a P58 form for compensation, but as I said before jewellery is exempt and they need the ebay details as part of the information they require. All I want to know is where the package went, I've written to them today instead!

Re: Ebay Refunds
Finally got it sorted! Had to write to their escalated complaints department and said it was pictures on a flash drive! They finally admitted the mistake shouldn't have happened, it was actually sent to a branch of boots over 250 miles from the correct address! They couldn't explain why it wasn't picked up on in the first place and conceded they probably wouldn't be able to retrieve it, but did send a cheque for £10! Quite pleased with that, the package I sent was worth £20 so not too bad as I expected to get nothing at all back from them.

Re: Ebay Refunds
I remember the day I ordered a car door for the 406 off ebay.
Arrived via courier but despite saying fragile on it, looked like it had been used as a trampoline. Edges were all bucked and dented in too.
Had to take photos, then return it (at my expense
) and eventually got a refund as the seller got compensated off the courier.
I wont buy car panels off ebay again unless they're local and I can pick up.

Re: Ebay Refunds
Definitely. Sounds more like a challenge. It was a shame too, as the door was a perfect colour match where Peugeot or Halfrauds couldn't be bothered matching the colour.lozz wrote:iwouidnt put Fragile on any parcel,![]()

Anytime I send anything fragile, usually computers or computer parts, I just wrap it in layers and layers of bubble wrap and those air filled pillows and the foam peanut things.
