Radiator

Post by mjb »

Anyone got a radiator lying around suitable for a 2.0T (petrol)? One from a 1.9TD or 2.1TD should be the same too apparently

Preferably able to contain hot pressurised coolant, unlike the one in my car at the moment...

Is someone like this worth a call? (why is Yell.com so effing useless?)

I'd have thought the breakers would have quite a few 1.9s lurking about. Then I suppose you don't know what you're getting.

Nice one Steve :)
To be honest it's laziness on my part, I threw some radweld in there but that did sod all; Euro's have quoted me £70 for a new one, I'll go with that when I can afford it, just had to tax the beast, £180 at the wrong time of year :(

£70 doesn't sound that bad, pugspares want £116 and Pug want both testicles. Unless it's made by Mickey Mouse you'll have some peace of mind too.

Umm, who's Euro, and do they deliver abroad? :|

£70 ain't too bad. I have a bad feeling I may end up grabbing one off ebay for £60 inc delivery. Getting it repaired ain't going to be cost effective - there's quite a few spots of pink on it from where it's been spraying coolant so we're talking rust flavoured swiss cheese here.

Trouble is in the next 30 days I've got to buy tax and get it through the MOT which is going to mean 5 new tyres as well. I really hope I don't get failed on the "excessive play in steering caused by worn swivel joint" that I got a warning for last time.

Am I allowed to keep an MOT failure parked on the road if it's taxed?

That steering play is probably a track rod end? cheap!

I don't know how you dare driving with a leaky rad, that would bother me a bit. Mind you I'm driving with oil pissing from the turbo for some reason and stinking the place out so who am I to judge

What steering play? I honestly can't feel any. The wheel won't turn with the engine off and when moving the slightest movement of the wheel affects the direction the car's going in! I just don't get it :(

Another bottle of radweld appears to have done the trick for the moment. It survived a few weeks after I flushed the system when replacing the thermostat (just refilled with coolant+water) but evidently it needs a constant flow of the stuff :(

Yes you can. The odds of it being checked are very slim anyway; if it's taxed there's no visible reason to do a check on it.
I hope it doesn't come to that though! I'm dreading my mot :(

Hmmm, I dunno about that. Those Numberplate Recognition camera vans certainly have the ability to check for tax, insurance and MOT. I reckon it's a bit of a risk.

Speaking of which I passed one today, several miles of dual carriageway with the inside lane closed for reasons best known to the Highways Agency and no-one else, with the van parked just at the start and the police cars a few miles down the road at the next roundabout, using the coned off area to pull in a seemingly endless stream of burbury baseball capped valleys chavs in their crappy uninsured corsas and clios. Oh how I chucked..... good enough for the bastards!
