N/s rear door

Post by stoker427 »

Hi, yesterday someone reversed into my rear n/s door of my estate. Got told today of price and I know it will be scrapped by insurance company. I will want to buy it back as it is only on 82000 miles, has anyone got a one ?I am in the Durham area.

I don't have a spare door, sorry...

However, they are a doddle to replace - I've bought whole cars before just for one or two panels - not so easy now as 406s are getting fewer.....

For the record, only an estate door will fit.

What colour is your car?

Hi, the colour is samarkan blue. They are getting fewer every month, I was hoping to get a complete one but can get a second hand skin for about £40/50 quid then transfer the inside parts of mine from ebay. Thanks for your reply.

No worries.

The internals are fairly easy to change over, mostly 10mm bolts, a bit of loom and a clip for the glass...

Cool.
You need an extra pair of hands to swap the door - it's not especially heavy, and the hinges have a dip in the top for the door part to sit in, but having someone to keep it in place is useful.

I dropped my replacement door while inserting the hinge pins, and dented the bottom part in, which then fouled the bodywork.... I thought I would sit on its own in the hinge cups, but I was incorrect.

Let's say I was more cautious with replacement number two..

Got a good guy to paint the second hand door skin and swap over my internals and fit it for £250 as a quote which I have said ok to. The car will now be classed as an N for insurance classification since it was uneconomical to repair and I bought it back. Its going in his garage next month.

Are the door mechanisms on the rear passenger doors of an estate the same as the front passenger doors, just need to know if mine is damaged from the accident I may need to get one quick . The door at the moment will not open from the outside but opens from the inside.

I honestly don't know, sorry.
It would probably be wise to pop the panel off and have a look at the inside of the handle - it's only a little tab that moves the rod to unlock the door

Offhand I cannot remember the layout and design of the rods so I can't give any other information.. :(

It sounds like a deadlock issue ( it's activated by double pressing the lock button on the remote, or keeping the key turned for an extra couple of seconds when locking the door.. )
