Testing the water

Post by Wag »

My 2003 03 plate LX 2.0 hdi estate in that maroon colour has a head gasket leaking. 106000 miles.
It has an mot until september 2020.
It's got 2 brand new Michelin x climate tyres on the front (about 600 miles or so).
Other than the gasket, reversing lights and the CD player everything else seems to be ok.
Had it about 2 1/2 years, exhaust and other consumables seem ok too.
Midlands based. Near Hinckley.
Will get the head fixed if no interest as it's still a good strong car. Still running.
Any interest/offers?

I've advertised my 2002 110 hdi estate
For over three months
I've done my head gasket + too much too mention, see all my post's.
I have had zero interest at £895 with all new tyres ect ect
To be honest I've spent more in the last year than I'm asking.

I might just burn it, rather than give some tight arse a bargain,

Go buy some unloved shxtheap & then come here & ask loads of questions & moan that there no good.

Ahhhhh , I feel better now
Rant over :cheesy:

Yep DD your absolutely correct. But better the devil you know. Do you still have it?

The heads now off and it's clear the failure was on 2 and possibly 4 (counting from the cam belt end).
Gonna put a new cam belt on as well (water pump fine). Taking the head for skimming today.

Incidentally, I've been making enqs about this:

Yes still have it, gonna run it through the winter then in the spring give it a service & try again.

I have bought it's replacement so it needs to go eventually.

406 Petrol auto's, thirsty if your used to a 110, not as much pull as a 110
The auto box can fail, but at 25k should be sound BUT the rest of the car will have suffered from lack of use
Unless it's been garaged it's whole life, serviced once a year regardless of millage & had all the necessary brake
overhauls ect.
Rubber components actually fail sooner through lack of use as rubber needs to be 'exercised' to keep it good
But obviously it all age's. So a car that's done 25k the bushings & engine mounts ect can be just as knackered
as a 125k car  not to mention oil seals drying out ect due to lack of use.
