RARE 406 v6 saloon on ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2002-PEUGEOT- ... 4d25e1ae5d
An honest ad I think, a rare beast and low mileage, has oil leak and dents though but looks a good-un.

I really like the car - you have the performance of the 406 coupe but with 4 doors....
The dents aren't an issue and it does come with decent service history.
One for Sam maybe??

Hi & welcome aboard.
Got yourself a tasty slice of 406 there. Post some more pics when you get it.
Hope you enjoy owning it and find the site useful. There's a wealth of info on here, but as non-coupe V6's are not so common, you'll probably want to join the coupe forum too. http://www.406coupeclub.org/PHPBB3/

Re: RARE 406 v6 saloon on ebay
I hope the car's ok, it sounds ok from the maintenance that's been done recently.
With respect to the advert guy it does kinda read "it's too expensive to run" reading between the lines, that's not to say the car has been neglected I just think he's finally thrown the towel in. The V6 will never do you any favours running it around locally like that it will drink fuel like there's no tomorrow.

Re: RARE 406 v6 saloon on ebay
I've spoken to the chap who owns it and he seems like a decent guy, it has a lot of history with it and I'm not too fussed for the cosmetics as long as it drives well.
It's main job will be towing and long trips as I have a Mini Cooper S for normal journeys and I'll soon have a 944 for weekends to replace the 2 924s I've just sold!
So it won't get much use but it will be looked after, my dad had 2 406s, a mk1 2.0 turbo in Jade Green and a mk2 2.0 Rapier in Monaco blue a lot of years ago so I've always been around French stuff.
1st French car I've had since my Saxo VTR and I'm looking forward to tidying it up a bit and hopefully fitting an aux in or Bluetooth kit to the standard hifi? Can you fit one to the cd changer output?

Re: RARE 406 v6 saloon on ebay
Well done and good luck with the 406, enjoy that V6 engine sound.
As for the bluetooth, if its an executive it will have the JBL amp in the boot which doesn't integrate too well with bluetooth kits, i tried a while back to wire up a parrot into the 406, it does the automatic mute ok, but did not let the sound go through the system, a local place that does car audio said it could not be done (something to do with different lines in or levels?) the best way around this was to buy an external speaker and mount it in the passenger footwell, it does the job ok.

Re: RARE 406 v6 saloon on ebay
How is the amp wired, will it be effective if I put a new head unit in the car? Is it line level or ISO?

Re: RARE 406 v6 saloon on ebay
The amp setup is a bit of a pig, to be honest. It's the same in the Coupe.
You have the Clarion head unit up front, which connects to the ISO bus like any normal stereo. There are two ISO connectors behind the Clarion unit - one for Left and one for Right. However, the Clarion unit is just a pre-amp - it produces line-level output. The JBL amplifier in the boot then amplifies it and sends it out to the speakers. This is important - the speakers ONLY connect to the amp, not to the head unit.
There are two avenues you can pursue:
1) Replace the Clarion head unit with a head unit that provides a line-level output. Some Sony head units do this (mine included). In this case, you just need to connect an adapter to allow you to connect whatever format the line-out ports are on your head unit up to the ISO bus.
2) Replace the Clarion head unit with any other head unit you like, then get a pair of speaker-level-to-line-level converters and connect them in series between your head unit's outputs and the ISO connectors.
Even though my Sony head unit has a line-out adapter, I had to go for the second choice - the reason being, there's some kind of irritating ground loop or something on my car - with the HU connected via its line-out connectors, there was an annoying buzz which changed in pitch with the engine speed (probably interference from the alternator). So I went for speaker-level-to-line-level adapters, and hid them in the centre console.
What you will notice is the JBL amp is really good, but the Clarion head unit is frigging awful. Connecting up my Sony MEX-BT3200U head unit was the best audio upgrade I've ever done, closely followed by replacing the stock rear 6x9 JBL speakers with a pair of JBL GTO938 - those are really good speakers, and not very expensive.
