NEED GONE BY 17/05/15! 52/2002 D9 406 V6 Manual Saloon Exec

Post by cento16v »

So a Xantia Activa has come up for sale local to me which i have wanted for some time so to make space the Peugeot may have to go.

68500 mile 406 V6 Exec Manual in Dark Blue Metallic
MOT until August i think but will check when i get home, just had Coils replaced with new type and a new temperature sensor and the coolant bled and replaced as it had a stop message temp too high which is now all cured.

I serviced the car when i got it with the correct grade oil and OEM filters for oil air and pollen, I also replace the gearbox oil at the same time and fit a Witter Towbar to the car which may be removed.

It has had an Connects 2 Aux lead fit in place of the CD changer and it has sat nav which i have never used as i have no disc :(

The car mechanically is pretty much spot on, there is a slight clutch judder sometimes which i think is caused by the cheap looking slave cylinder which is fitted but it has never bothered me and doesn't slip in any gears under any load, with or without caravan.

The body work is the only thing that lets this car down, it has been reversed side on into the old owners gates at both sides, one side is an easy fix as its a door and this is a common colour and the other side on rear quarter which is the same and to the primer on the door and the quarter but not to bare metal and the car has no rust anywhere at all.
There is also a couple of little dents on the bonnet and where doors have been opened into it etcs, it is a 12 year old car at the end of the day, but easier to point it out now.

The car has recent Micheline Energy savers on the front and the rear has a budget and a older Michelin tyre on which may need changing soon.

I look after my cars and although its not in the best shape externally (through no fault of my own :( ) its still been washed and waxed regularly and the interior was cleaned and treated with gliptone and regularly re finished with meguiars.

The interior is pretty clean, no damage anywhere, the osf door handle surround is missing for some reason, there is a small hole in the osf seat bolster which you can only see from under eye level as you get in, everything works, JBL factory amplified sound system, ac, sunroof, folding mirrors, all windows including one touch on drivers window, the only thing that doesn't is the auto wipers as the sensor isn't attached correctly from when it had a screen replaced in the past, the new screen has a small fixable chip which has never bothered me or grown so i left it.

It drives very well, it has plenty of power as you would expect which no doubt has been helped by the full stainless steel exhaust the previous owner had fitted, Cambelt was done last year and the stamps and invoices to show this are included. It also has service history provided in the service book and old receipts for repairs its had in the past.

No knocks or bangs from the suspension and it handles very well for something with such a big lump up front and its very well damped, mid corner bumps don't push it off line and its very adjustable mid corner with a lift of the throttle as long as the Stability control is turned off first.

I don't really know if i want to get rid of it but i have wanted an Activa since my Dad had one when i was young and don't really want to pass it up and if i had space this wouldn't be happening and still might not, but i'll see if anyone wants this and then go from there, i don't want to eBay it as its full of numptys and id rather someone appreciated it for its rareness and it doesn't get chopped up for some one to put the engine in a 306!

It is a very rare car, i certainly haven't seen another the same spec with such a low mileage in the time i have owned it.

Will get some pics up tonight, just thrown this together to see if i get any interest really a
I'm not sure what its worth so offers, it has been a reliable car and very rarely driven tbh as i generally use my Mini and use this for long trips only.

Let me know if I've missed anything.

Cheers

Liam

Any one want this for £250 or offers before i take it to we buy any car?

Still has MOT until august, decent black leather interior, JBL sound system with Connects 2 Aux input and a nearly brand new Witter towbar.

Stupid stop message has come back on and i don't trust it any more and im not putting any more money or time into it, new sensor might be duff but seems unlikely.

Car drives 100% and has never stopped and doesn't over heat but temp gauge drops to zero and temp too high message appears, clutch has a slight judder that its had since i got it.

Needs to be gone before Saturday or it will be gone!

Car is in Leeds, West Yorkshire, sorry is should have mentioned that!

I took the temp sensor back out tonight as I noticed there was coolant on top of the gearbox and found I'd left a cardboard washer on it

Refit and no coolant leak and the temp gauge went to just below 90 and stayed there on a quick 20 mile run, if you have to drive it a distance it won't let you down.

I did a 140 mile journey with caravan attached literally 3 weeks ago with the old sensor in and it was fine, it just thought it was flat cold now and again!

It's getting traded in this week and they are going to scrap it

:(

I'll miss it, it really grew on me, shame it wasn't a bit more reliable.

No one? Please someone save it seems so sad for such a rare car to be scrapped, did 170 miles over weekend and averaged 30.8 mpg, I really don't want to see it scrapped but it's stay of execution is nearly over!

It would be a shame to scrap it....

Stick it on Gumtree or a local Facebook page for a week, giving all its plus points, and see if it sells - if not then its destined for the scrapper.. :(

Do not mention you will scrap it on the ad though to avoid all the local scummers trying to offer you £30.........

Unfortunately the 406 is less than a favourite choice these days to all but those in the know and one with a humping great 3.0 petrol up front even less desirable. The engine alone must be worth a few bob to the 'modders' out there and then scrap what's left perhaps.

It is a shame but there's little you can do about it in such a short space of time.

I'd have it in a heartbeat, but I don't have room for another car, and the lad's only been driving less than a year so insurance would be a lot higher for a 3 litre V6 406 than it would for a 1.6 Mk1 Focus.

Seriously, please don't scrap this; pop it on Gumtree.

If it absolutely has to be scrapped, maybe PM Ade, who breaks Coupes. I think he has taken saloons/estates in the past, and this one might interest him particularly because of the engine. He's on the coupe club with username ade1122 and on eBay with the same.

He's a great chap and likely to give you a better price than a scrappie, and then at least the parts are going towards keeping other 406s on the road. 8)

It's gone now, sold it to a specialist my dads used for years for his French cars so at least it's gone to a good home.

Excellent; hopefully they'll get it out on the roads once more.

I was largely in your position a few years ago, and ended up scrapping my early D9 saloon; some arse in a white van hit it while it was parked (legally) by the roadside on what passes for a high street in the borders town of Earlston.

I'd just agreed to buy my Coupe (test driving it was the only reason I was down there in the first place), and had banked on being able to sell the saloon for a good price to help pay for it - but no. Came back to my car and found it had been bashed into; result was a big dent in the drivers' side front wing, and bad scraping and deformation down both drivers' side doors. Other than that, the car was immaculate, and I was gutted. The guy had left the scene and didn't leave a note. Couldn't find a replacement set of doors, or I'd have fixed it up. Didn't have the room to keep it, and couldn't sell it in the condition it was in (didn't help that it then failed its MOT, and I couldn't afford to get it to passing mark).

In the end, I scrapped it (got about £120), but removed the alloys and the stainless exhaust, and sold them on eBay (£70-ish for the wheels, £110 for the exhaust).

I still wish I hadn't done that, as I loved that car - but I was left with very little choice.

So yes, again, very glad to see another 406 is saved for another day.
