Yes, car prices are insane. Our X3 is worth more now than it was 2 years ago!

The Mondy is lovely. Still getting used to it and don't get a lot of chance to drive it, so spending some time (and £) getting it as good as it can be before the summer.

Well, I am still driving the Mondy, having only covered 4k miles since I bought it 1.5 years ago. The PSA (or whatever they are called now) is mighty but I am missing the second turbo I had on the 407 for that extra shove at 2600rpm. And the turbo lag is also somewhat annoying but that's expected.

No issues so far though the gearbox has such long ratios that the gear change is slow if I am to avoid horrible jerkiness. 60mph keep the engine at just under 1500rpm and 2000rpm at 70mph - it's mostly idling!

On our recent holiday* to Scotland, we rented a Golf TSI, which I thing was 1.5 turbo petrol? It was OK really - and you do feel a bit of encouragement from what must be the smallest turbo in the world. I couldn't stand the lack of physical controls. Everything had to be done via the touch screen thing. A bit like the Ginge's wife's Cistern... why do they make things harder!

The car prices are ... wtf..

That sounds like us, since the dreaded lurgy and ditching the buddy that wanted to go to a bar 3 times a week, the yoyo is only doing around 4,000km a year. We could almost do without a car. Almost... Car prices are also mental here, not that they were in any way sane before but according to the yellow sniffer the yoyo's still worth almost what I paid for it 8 years (  ) ago.

Odd thing about car prices - most everything has got more expensive but there are exceptions.
Looked at getting a 'cheap' runaround after my BMW got totalled recently only to find people asking £3.5-4k for a basic 11 year old Astra or anything similar. Strangely BMW prices were pretty much the same as 2 years ago, so I just got another one. Granted it isn't the same as the previous one, but it's tidier and was just over half the price.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I still cannot be drawn to a new car even if they are better in every way ( economy, safety, eco friendly etc ) because I'm an old stubborn stick-in-the-mud....

My 406 is plodding along despite being abused on a regular basis for doing dump trips and moving shiz for friends* and family+ for absolutely no thanks whatsoever :(

The Volvo isn't used much but I do like the ooomph from it's superb engine, although getting used to working on a petrol again takes some getting used to.

Nice car Capt, I've not heard any bad things about them, and the turbo lag is only noticeable compared to the your 407. Have you joined a Mondie forum?

If you have a decent 406 I would stick with it, I think they are the best car Peugeot ever made.

Maybe just me and one or two others? But there are still quite a few decent 406's out there? although prices seem to be on the incline? My own 2.2hdi exec estate just seems to me to be the most comfortable car I have ever owned, does everything I want it to do and has never let me down. Whats not to like?
Sure you've got to look after them but I paid £900 for mine and my garage ( two ex peugeot main dealer mechanics) assure me that she will see me out. So at under 100,000 miles and just run in, I see no reason to argue! :cheesy:
Would never drive anything else.
