Whats my car worth?

Post by grasmere59 »

It's relutantly time to let my 406 go i think,it's a fully loaded 2003 53 Executive estate in Diablo red with chesnut leather trim,it's done 165k with a full service history, main Peugeot dealer till 90k odd then i have serviced it and documented all work carried out.Cambelt and water pump done at 151k and anything that needed doing and even stuff that didn't has been done.It has laquer peel on O/S front wing and other than that it is very presentable inside and out with no rips or tears to the seats or carpets. All electrics work as they should but the A/C needs a new condensor,MOT due mid Dec,
What do you think it's worth guys,i was thinking £750 ish? it's got a spare set of Hoggars with Dunlop winter's fitted aswell.

I would be inclined to aim a little higher - there are fewer 406s on eBay or Gumtree etc so a late model Diablo with the tan leather would be quite desirable.

I suggest you aim for £1200 :cheesy:

Yeah I would say over a bag of sand all day long.

Shame about the a/c, that's a car buyers favourite bargaining tool.......

In fact, if you fixed the a/c, had the car paintwork repaired and machine polished you could literally 'big up' the sale as one of the best remaining 406's...you could see towards £2k for it ?????

The A/C is a leak on the condenser as if you give it a regas it works fine for a week or so and it was traced to that,as for the wing i have been keeping an eye out for used one the same colour but they are few and far between. If it wasn't for the fact that i might be losing the garage i keep it in soon i would be keeping it but just not got the room.

I thought at first it was the petrol one as top of the page which would have reduced its saleability but if its diesel, especially that colour (my favourite)
it could sell quite well. Gone are the days of the three to four hundred pound ones as most of mine were, most are now fetching north of five hundred but for an executive probably more, but not the silly 1500 - 2500 prices seen on ebay.

To get a reasonably accurate value look at the 'sold' prices on ebay, bottom of the options list on the left hand side. I would probably be interested in it myself if I had not recently bought a C5 - the same colour. 8)

Average life of a car is 15 years. 406's are very much at the point where they're starting to be few and far between on the roads.

In your position, if I really wanted to sell it, I'd rectify the things you mention. Then put it up for sale at the highest price
you can think of. Someone who likes the cars, has some money, but doesn't want to wander unaware into someone else's
nightmare of unsorted problems will find it attractive.
