The Price of Diesel

Post by trufflehunt »

I've noticed recently, almost out of the corner of my eye, that the difference between the price
of petrol and that of diesel seems to be increasing.

Generally, I've tended to assume the gap to be around 4 to 6 pence a litre.
However, last week, I'm sure it was about 10p a litre gap at a local Asda / Morrisons.

I've just checked at petrolprices.com, and they say the national average is almost 8p.

Anyone else noticed this, or the reason why...?

Prices dropped a bit last week, but the gulf between petrol & diesel has grown.
At our Asda it's 119.7 vs 131.7, 12p a litre or 54p a gallon.

If you shop a Tesco watch out for the '10p per litre off' offer. We have had two lots in the last month, quite a saving. Otherwise I tend to fill up at Trago Mills, only in the westcountry although I believe although they were talking about building one in Wales, they are usually 2 or 3p cheaper than anyone else.

Also watch out for the terms of any supermarket '10p off' vouchers, there were stories of food being marked up in price for the duration of the offer so you weren't actually gaining anything with the fuel saving, tins of Tuna rings a bell....

Oh, listen to me, suggesting a supermarket would manipulate offers to confuse customers into spending more money

I got one of those vouchers at the end of October with a till receipt for about £70, not had one since for lots of smaller transactions.
I might* have used it to part replenish the camper's tank after our recent expedition to Dorset.....

100 litres @ £1.239 :)

Seems the pez/dizzle price difference is firmly routed now.

At least 10p/ltr (or 45p/gallon in English).
