Rear doors on year 2000 406

Post by fflintstone9 »

Neither of the rear doors will stay open on my 406 diesel, unlike the fronts which will 'click' and lock on the strap when fully open. Is this a fault or was it designed like that ? If the former, how do I fix it ?

Are the check straps still on the doors? Its unusual for them to fail altogether, they will more likely break. If they are still there you could try greasing them, maybe the latching mechanism is stuck.

Yes, check the check straps.
As the rear doors are not used as often as the fronts, the straps can start to size and eventually snap.
It's only held on by 4 bolts, 2 you can see but the other 2 will need the door card off to get to them.

As Peter said, grease the latches first, as the bit that springs back into place into the indents may be stuck.
