Pigletson is 19 and is now registered keeper & policy holder on the old estate.
His mates rip the piss a bit until he hoofs it away from their Clio's etc. Or they are on a camping weekend.

Doggy, would a large cramper van not be a burden for the 300 days a year you're at home? be like owning a lorry :?

Would it not be better to hire one as and when?

I can see the appeal in France/Spain etc for a few months but here I dunno really, getting tangled up with all the idiots racing to get somewhere important*. I know this country has some stunning scenery and places of interest but they never really exploit the idea of people wanting to visit and enjoy it, it's more "oh did you see that lake through the trees then...." as you plough onwards.

I've toyed with the idea of a camper van but come to the same conclusion as Welly, the idea is very appealing but unless you use it every weekend its expensive, if you can afford it fine but I can't.

I used to caravan many years ago but when we went to Scotland I found that for the cost of the additional fuel plus the site rent we could rent a cottage in the far north which we did for many years, in fact we still do, probably not now although you still have to include the cost of the caravan.

We have been abroad a few times, I like Brittany particularly, not much traffic and the weather is a little better than over here, but its a lot of hassle at our age and we haven't been for about 10 years.

I do agree with Welly regarding the beauty of this country but the traffic is becoming horrendous so we go where there isn't so much, the far north of Scotland in May and North Yorkshire in September, the roads are generally fairly quiet then.

My plan is for 3 - 4 southern european trips of 6 to 8 weeks duration and maybe 1 or 2 of shorter duration in the UK each year.
Having a car along would allow me to park it, say at my bro's in central France when we're back here.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

If your going to be making good use of it that fine but there are so many down here which are parked up for most of the year and have gone green. Enjoy your holidays.

JLR have a huge issue with these engines in both 2.7 and 3.0 format destroying bottom ends, usually because a shell has spun. However I couldn't find one case of a Peugeot having the issue even though they were both made to the same spec on the same line. The only difference between them the JRL versions had a larger baffled sump and uprated cooling system.

Thanks for the reply, I'll switch it back to the other thread to avoid further confusion.
