Service box won't take VIN

Post by piglet »

This is the 98 106, I'm sure I've loaded that VIN up before.
All I want is the paint code
Could someone else try?

VF31AVJ2E52179000

Thanks

just putting the last 8 digits in brings up a 106 and alters vin to

VF31AVJZE52179000

changes the 2 to a z

and
BODY COLOUR EGJ - PAINT SANTORINI BLUE

The first part gives you the trim code and engine code.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_i ... identifier

Digits 1 - 3 represent the region and manufacturer; VF = Europe, France and 3 = Peugeot
Digits 4 through 8 describe the model and specification of the vehicle
Digit 9 is a check digit, used to verify the VIN hasn't been tampered with (checksum)
Digits 10 through 17 are the actual vehicle identifier, like a serial number

Well, what do you know?

Hold on, 00000000 to 99999999, that's 100,000,000 possible cars. But there's meant to be over a billion, how does that work then? :?

Maybe the last 7 digits are unique per country, or per world region? i.e. a Chrysler Neon may have a VIN ending 1234567, but no other US car is allowed to have that, but a French-built Peugeot 406 may also have a VIN ending 1234567.

Or maybe it goes even further and the 7 digits are unique per manufacturer? i.e. 100,000,000 possible cars per company?

Or even further still and those last 7 digits are unique for each combination of the first 10 digits of the VIN? i.e. 100,000,000 possible Peugeot 406 LX estates in Galileo Green with steel wheels, tan leather seats, satellite navigation, and cruise control, and another 100,000,000 possible Peugeot 406 LX estates in Galileo Green with steel wheels, tan leather seats, satellite navigation, and without cruise control...

The trim code is in the first part of the vin number next to the engine code...the engine code is always in the first part of any manufacturers vin number.
