Rpm v mph ?

Post by Mayeux »

Hi to all ,
Just bought a 406S 90hdi and apart from some problems to sort cant understand why it seems to be reving so much almost like a petrol engine on the motorway it was at 3000 rpm at 65mph can anyone shes a light on that ? So much more punchy than my old 90 and far far more than my 110
Thank you Guy

HI & a belated welcome aboard. 8)

Not 100% sure of the correct gearing for a HDi 90, but it's about 29 mph / 1000 RPM, so you would expect to see roughly 2100/2200 RPM at an indicated 65.
Can't be due to the wrong wheels/tyres as the speedometer would be affected equally. :?

If you post or PM your car's VIN code, I'll look up the spec and let you know.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
