Caught speeding... AGAIN!

Post by Captain Jack »

That's boys and girls... this time in sunny Swindon, by Wiltshire police %$&?. Doing 56mph in a 40... Hmmm, I somehow think this was a Gatso piggy bank that got me, rather than a laser gun thing. They even photographic evidence online! I assume this will be another 3 points, making a total of 6?

So.... can anyone recommend a nice speed camera detector? :D

This gets a good write up , plus it's pretty cheap with free updates for life and it's still gona be legal when the new laws kick in. :cheesy:

Been driving since 1997.
Not a single point, citation or what not.

I was pulled over for doing 45 in a 30 zone. It was 2am at night and the town was dead. Me and my Pal had just finished stocking the car full of snacks as we were headed for Wales.

I turn a corner on a dual carriageway section, chatting away, not paying attention when I spot the coppers. But by the time I had processed what I was seeing, one of them stood in the road, held his left hand in a stop gesture and indicated for me to pull into the bus stop beside him with his right.

I though "thats it.. my first speeding ticket"

I stopped, put my window down and the officers approached. One checked ovedr my car while the other asked me if I knew what speed I was doing. I held my hands up and told him I wasn't paying attention and clocked myself at 44 as he signalled me to stop. He showed me the readout on their gun and it showed 45. I then said I knew full well it was a 30 zone and that I wasn't paying attention, my friend and I were buzzed about the long trip ahead. He then told me I was to be breathaliased. Fair enough I said. I joked that if he finds something, I'l be too happy to turn myself in and I don't drink. The test went as expected... not a trace of anything.

His mate returned from checking over my car (I had made sure every single bulb was working and had 4 brand new tyres on and brand new tax too. I had even spit shined the interior and exterior earlier in the day. She looked mint). The officers said a few words to each other, then the interviewing one leaned down and said: "Right Sir, off you go. Mind your speed on the rest of your journey. We'll let you go this time".

Cracking I thought :D

I kept to the speed limits all the way to the M6 where I cruised down to Wales at 85, 90.

The coppers were looking for drunk drivers and insanely dan gerous ones. It was 2 am on a Saturday morning after all. I was probably not worth the hassle. Clean record, 100% road worthy car and not a single trace of anything on the breathaliser.

Thats been my only brush with the law. Aside from a random road side stop one evening a week before christmas where I was stopped along with 2 other cars and quizzed a few questions and my car was given the once over. But nowt happened, all was legal and road worthy, is a tad dirty and loud (exhaust was blowing)

The closest I've come is when I got a bollocking off a copper for doing 40 in a 30 area

I was about 15 and riding a pedal bike home from school at the time ;)

Blue406's story is exactly why I'd rather get pulled by a copper than a poxy robotic camera.

A mate in work got pulled for doing 80 the other day by a police bike. He was saying to me how the policeman was really cocky, but I'd leave them be as cocky as they wnat, get their kicks, tell me off sternly and leave me get on my way, feeling belittled. I'd be much less likely to speed again than having a letter on the mat.

Ive been pulled by plod, 6 times in the last 3 years, always by the same arrogant, up-himself, donut eating pig.

Its not because of bad driving or speeding (well once). "Just a routine check sir" is what he says and promptly goes over my van and trailor with a fine tooth comb. But if theirs one thing ive learnt is that your more likely to get away with anything if you sit tight and say nowt rather than giving them slaver.

Only speed on the bike not in the 406 and only on fast A roads with twisty bits on a nice early sunday morning when there is less traffic about, not in town. You run the risks, you take your chances, so if i was to get pulled then it's a fair cop. :!:

Well, today I've been out driving and I actually kept to ALL speed limits.

I've also been to the bank to open a new account and the lady said that when she was done for speeding, she went to some speed awareness course, which meant that she didn't incur the penalty points on her license. She still paid the fine and the course fee but I am more worried about points. You can only take this course once every three years though...

Does anyone know anything more about it?
