My lad's probably scrapping his 11-plate 320D, due to a knackered turbo causing a siezed engine.
No economic way of fixing it. I was amazed, but I'm forced to agree he's better cutting his losses.
To make matters worse, this came weeks after shelling out for a new clutch & dmf.

No, they never go wrong.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

But 320d's never..

I thought they'd gotten around the failing turbo/knackered swirly flaps problems years ago? I can't believe a 2011 car needs scrapping

It's not a ratbag, but a long way from pristine, poverty spec, something like 150k miles, needing tyres & MOT.
Best guess is about 2.5k minimum to get it going versus potential value of not much over 4k.
Apart from all that, he's had to buy something else for transport.

So the 320d went back today, and I came home in my 525i again. All problems appear to have been resolved! Well... time will tell.

Was absolutely pissing down with rain ALL DAY. The 320d must have been a company car for someone utterly unimportant because as well as having no optional extras, it also appeared to have tyres made of polished marble, for all the grip they had in the wet... Traction control light was pretending to be a strobe light at a rave! The 525i is a big old pudding of a car though, and had no such issues.

Coupe remains unsold...
2002 (D9) Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2.2 litre Petrol. Scarlet Red/Rouge Ecarlate/Rosso Scarlatto. Black Leather interior. SOLD :(
2008 (E60 LCI) BMW 525i M-Sport, 3.0 litre Petrol. Carbonschwarz Metallic. Black Dakota Leather and Myrtlewood interior.

Is that the same one that was driven through Prescott Hill Climb last year? Or was it a year before... anyhow.. and it had a 'chip' installed?

The scary failures on Germanic ilk is worrying. I was half considering a Merc of some sort after this current 407 has outlived its usefulness as they are just lovely inside but seeing the prices of parts and the fact that certain parts aren't sold separately (why not?!) puts a real dampener on things.

This is the beast:

Image

Taken on 17th June (the day I collected it originally), on a surprisingly nice day, just outside a Co-Op supermarket in Glasgow. Ever since then either the weather's been awful or the car's been with the dealer, so there are no other photos so far.

It's not as pretty as the Coupe, nor is it as fun around corners. But it's roomy, comfortable, has four doors, and a large boot, and 100% less lacquer peel.

Yep, 2015 I reckon.

Sadly there have been a few reminders of late that not every diesel powertrian is as good as a 406/7
