Fuel gauge problem

Post by Ivan495 »

Hello everyone!

I own a 2002. 406 2.0 HDi 110 and since yesterday, I'm having a little problem.

It was all normal, I had just over fuel reserve. I parked a car on a slope for a few hours and now, after that, It's showing me that I have about 1/2 a tank of fuel.

I went to the gas station and filled 30 litres and now, is showing me that I have 3/4 of fuel in tank.

So, what do I do? How to solve this problem? Should I fill it all the way or?

Unfortunately this isn't unusual for a 406 fuel gauge,my previous 406 and my current one have strange fuel gauges, one minute you think your doing well then the next time you turn the ignition on it's nearly empty i think it's just a 406 thing, annoying but I've learned to live with it.

Mines done this since I've had it, four years & counting,
Best to use the brim it & odometer method, 70 litres =15 gallons @ 45 mpg's = 675miles
Oh & when it shows empty it's empty, I never let my range go below 50 miles

Mine has been nice and reliable. It has changed a bit when parking on a hill, but only for as long as I was actually on the hill.

The only main exception is last summer, where it became very erratic and unreliable. Eventually I lost any reading from it, and not long after the fuse went. As it turned out the pump had broken at the plastic rails (the pump is a two-piece design that is spring loaded to keep it at the bottom of the tank). After replacing the pump the gauge was fine and I haven't popped fuse #25 since.

Try disconnecting the battery and doing a BSI reset.

But if I disconnect the battery, won't that create immobiliser fault?

It shouldn't if you follow the correct procedure.
