No further issues, it's decided to behave itself.
Just as well really, since mine has developed an ominous rattle which seems to come from the timing belt area.
I changed the belt kit / aux belt / idlers / tensioner / water pump just under 3 years / 50k ago with good quality stuff, so it should be alright, (and if I'd cocked it up it wouldn't have lasted this long). Only had a quick look / listen in the dark last night - it'll have to wait till the weekend.
Crank pulley maybe? Common on DW10's but I've not heard of one going on a 2.2 before. We shall see....
I was fortunate to able to borrow the GTX for a few days, it's a nice car and beats the hell out of walking.

Thanks Jon, I'm hoping that's what it is but couldn't see any tell tale signs of rust / swarf around it.

You could grab a metre of hose pipe and fashion a stethoscope listening device. My mechanic showed me this and its very effective for placing your 'ear' into tight spaces and/or for placing it onto surfaces for a good listen.

Re: Time for a change?
We also had a failed crank pulley on a mate's 2.2 hdi, made a horrible rattling! It was so loud we thought it's the engine itself giving up the ghost. We also checked the timing belt and pulleys and all good there. After removal of the crank pulley we found play in it (play between rubber and outer metal casing).

Bang on the money, Jon & deMarcel
Fairly easy to spot in daylight
Close up
Corteco replacement from Euro Car Parts, £71 and all's good.
The GTX saved me serious hassle last week, but it's nice to have mine back.
