A pleasant Insurance renewal surprise

Post by Welly »

The Volvo of doom's insurance was due at the end of Nov but because I went to that Germany and was busy with work I missed the chance to get some comparative quotes so my existing policy rolled-on under automatic renewal....Damn thought I....it has increased by £7.00 per month.

£7.00 aint the end of the world but I'd rather spend £84.00 a year on something tangible.

Anyhoo, just called them up 3 days late and all apologetic and sorry that I'd not called before the renewal.......they gave me a discount of £5.00 per month. Result! :cheesy:

Faith in large organisations re-aligned.

"modified" Volvo of doom all legal and ready for battle.

Just checking I've got this straight.....
You're celebrating a £2/month increase?
(If I'd let mine renew it was going to rush me £33/month, so I switched/paid in one lump, £240 for 20k miles/year). :cheesy:
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Yes kinda, well, celebrating a 'lesser' increase then.

£2.00 a month isn't going to warrant a second thought but £7.00 grrrrrrrr  NOBODY....NOBODY gets £7.00 out of me without a fight

Am I the only one whose insurance premium went down this year by £20 even without phoning them and haggling as I usually do?!

That's quite unusual really, I'd worry about them discovering their "error" down the line, when it's way too late to do anything about it.

I've stuck with Admiral for several years in a row, because my renewal price with them has been lower than the best quote received via the Meerkat or the StupidDamnedOperaSinger.com

Golden rule: if your insurer puts your premium up, despite no at-fault crashes or new points on your license since last renewal, you MUST change insurer, even if they lower it a bit when you call them.

It's called "Loyalty to customers". Remember: you owe them no favours. If they want to retain your business, they have to not be arseholes about it.

On a similar note I cancelled my AA membership of some 22 years recently. Every year I have a battle with them: price goes up....phone...haggle...price comes down but this year they were having none of it so I told them to politely FRO and went with Green Flag.

To be honest I was really pissed off that they let me go like that, and surprised. 22 years and only 3 call outs I would'a thought I'd be a model customer.
