I bought another 406.....

Post by nutski »

In the last year i've been chopping and changing my cars, I decided to sell my 406 Coupe HDi (although it's still at my dads......), bought a 407 Coupe 2.7 V6 but sold it to my dad after 3 weeks as it was much too thirsty even when driving it sedately, got a 407 Coupe 2.0 HDi which i've now got for sale as I never really got attached to it.
I'm trying to decide what I want long term but we have the mother in law visiting from Oz in a month so I thought 4 doors would be handy!
A year ago i convinced my friends to buy Gumby's 406 but a couple of weeks ago they decided to pick up a 607, so I've now bought the 406 from them!
First day of taking it to work and it's ticked over to 170k and still pulls like a train!
Should do me fine for 6-12 months while I save up and make my mind up on what I get next

Hi Ian, hope all is well.

I didn't realise you sold your Coupe, I really should pay more attention, but I'm glad you've got a nice example now.

Was the 2.7Hdi really that bad? I was wondering why the 407 coupe was a bargain buy - £1750 for a 2007 GT model!

Been plodding along with a slipped disc since the start of the year which hindered me from playing with cars of even sitting on the sofa for a while!

Technically, I've still got the Coupe, it's at my dad's and has gradually had a little work done on it, planning on it being MOT'd next week, transferring over my Challengers with really good tyres on and then it's up for sale, still have the Galileo V6 Coupe which is one of the reasons I'm attempting sensible for a change!

My girlfriend wants to get a tiny puddle jumper next year for getting to work etc as the V6 is overkill for her, as she knows the V6 is not allowed to be sold I cant justify us having 3 cars which will all probably have 3 doors! I'll probably end up with a 2.2 HDi 407 if I ever have the money and find a nice one next year sometime.

The 2.7 was thirsty, it's a shame as the one I found was fantastic and I'm superb condition, I was averaging 35mpg driving it sedately, it's boring enough for me having an auto but driving it like miss daisy and only getting that was too much, in comparison, my round trip to work today with a couple of short spirited sections was 47.9mpg!
The this that tipped me over the edge was picking my dad up on a Saturday morning and doing 16 miles round town at sedate speeds and acceleration and receiving an average of 20mpg, I can beat that easily in the V6!

Half the time they are cheap because of the tax, 55 plate (which I had) was £250ish a year, upwards until you get to 08/09 was £450 a year!

I bet you get a lot of fun from the V6 in return for your investment in fuel though? Although the 2.2 HDi 407 is only 0.2s slower to 60. If you're gonna have two turbos then parallel sequential is definitely the way to go
BTW: I notice that if you want that V6 diesel with a manual transmission then you're only option is a Jaguar S-type.

I can get 70MPG out of the 2.2 but it's slow work.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Nice to see everyone still here (and not all with Volvo's! :cheesy: )

The Coupe bodywork isn't great as all my money went into the mechanicals, so that'll be what lets it down when I advertise it.

The V6 is smiles per gallon  It's really nice to drive and is just effortless, only on 76k still too.

I have tracked around the last 80k miles that we have driven in various cars with an app on my phone, the V6 has actually returned 22.1mpg over 8000 miles, considering some of the trips we do it's not bad at all.

Planning on putting a little money into the V6 over the next few years, I came home one day to find someone had put a hold in the front bumper so that's top of the list....

I did find you can get a Citroen C6 with the 3.0 HDi V6 and a manual gearbox, so i'd be tempted by that but they do look so huge!

My friends who bought the 607 2.2 HDi (late model with bi-turbo 170) are currently averaging 31mpg, it's been remapped to a supposed 210bhp but it still seems appallingly low for that engine, it's definitely the engine i'd like to have next I think and it's a shame Peugeot never used it in the 407 Coupe.
