Silver interior door handles... Easy to fit?

Post by fattail95 »

Evening guys,

I want to get a set of silver door handles and fit them to my '6, but have a few questions before I buy them... Are handles the same for front and back? Or do I need left front, left back, right front, right back? And are they specific to coupe/saloon/estate?

Thanks,
Ben.

Just looking up part numbers, there are RPOs and all sorts.

Presumably these

9143 G6 LEFT - CHROME FINISH INSIDE DOOR HANDLE SINCE RPO 09303
9143 G7 RIGHT - CHROME FINISH INSIDE DOOR HANDLE SINCE RPO 09303

They are the same, saloon, estate, coupe, front & rear (not the coupe obv.)

Looks like they changed the design at RPO 8729 (October 2000) so if your car's earlier than this then I don't know.

I'm not sure if you can just change the chrome handle bit, more likely you'll have to change the whole assembly. Door card off job I reckon.

The handles are plastic-rivetted to the inside of the door. You'll need some kind of pop-rivet gun thingy.

Mark.W did mine on the Coupe for me when he was up fixing ... well ... EVERYTHING. And when I had them fitted to the saloon, Blue406 basically did it for me. I'm mechanically inept and possess surprisingly few tools

Thanks for the replies.

So I presume the plastic rivets can be drilled out and replaced for normal metal ones?

Its an easy job, i used a cone drill bit to drill out the old rivets (must have been aftermarket because any ive come across are metal) remove them and when use new rivets to replace them which needs a pop rivet gun.
Alternatively use some bolts with nyloc nuts (or threadlock) to hold the handles in place

Remember to vacuum out the bottom of the door to get rid of the old pop rivets to prevent the rattles when everything is back together
