JAMES! - 206 question...

Post by DaiRees »

This car is going to be the death of me.

'Er in doors has bought new wheels, so her 206 is leaving us. My mates wife was interested, so I spent 2 hours cleaning the bloody thing this afternoon. They show up and start the car and the fuel light is on and the gauge doesn't move off the lower stop, hmmmm that's a bit odd 'cos there's half a tank in there :? .

I must have disturbed something with my vigourous hoovering or washing  . Question is what? How do I get to the sender to check that? Do the wires go through the car under the seats or something, or are they underneath? Hopefully this is just a dodgy connection somewhere....

By the way they bought the car so I've only got a couple of days to fix it :cheesy:

first off check the fuses for the BSi, then try disconnecting the battery and link the terminals together overnight, like i told you to do on your car before, if this doesnt cure it, then lift up the rear seat, under it you will find a black plastic dish/cover, if not there maybe a metal shield that needs to be drilled out, then when you have the black cover off, you will see a 4 pin plug, with 2 fat wires and 2 thin wires, the 2 thin ones are for the gauge sender, check for 12v with a multimeter between the two wires, if this checks out then measure the resistance of the 2 pins they were plugged into on the sender, rock the car harshly and the resistance should slightly change, if you have an open circuit then the sender is dead, if you dont have 12v at the plug then you have more problems, at this point i would say BSi but it cant be as you had it replaced, so its most likely a wiring fault

Couldnt this just be the typical pug clock dry joints?

Thats exactly what happened to mine. If you hit the dash and it doesn't go up, then that will rule that out anyway.

Hope you can sort it easily. BE CAREFULL if you drill out the metal cover, I know of people drilling into the tank   hopefully you won't need to.

So what's her indoors' new Motah?????????

Thanks for bumping this thead Welly, I knew there was a reason I logged on this morning

Luckily it had the plastic cover so no drilling required, still broke a clip taking it off though

Fiddled with the multi plug on top of the sender and all is now well. Just hope it stays that way for at least a week or so.... :cheesy:

The wife's new car.....

Yeah, but the 206 has done only 27000 miles in 5 and a half years, and my father in law has a focus with this engine that regularly returns 40+mpg, so she doesn't really need an oil burner... :D

Dai, we must be living a parallel life.

I was finking about a new Focus for er indoors this year.

I love the new focus, and despite my old fashioned fears about fords of old, new fords are pretty ace by all accounts.

(what do you mean about bumping your thread, I thought I was offering a bit of advise about the drilling hazard) :?

I've been doing a bit of research about the whole Petrol/Diesel thing and most reckon that for town driving your no better off with a Diesel and a modern petrol is just as good, or better!

A Diesel only starts to pay dividends after the first 30 mins of driving or, say 20miles or so.

I did a brim to brim test over 1 week on her indoors 318tds and it's only doing 35MPG

Mine only manages 37

I logged on to tell James that I'd fixed it, then completely forgot to do so until you posted in the thread and bumped it to the top of the "recent" list, so thank you :cheesy:

I reckon the styling of the new focus is really nice, people either love them or hate them though! I never liked the previous shape.

I'm well pleased with this deal. Brand new @ unregistered Ghia 1.6 TI-VCT 115 with a cracking spec for 11.5K. They're 16.5K in the stealers. Classed as an import but "sourced from UK" via some leasing company or something, so it's got full UK spec. Only difference is that it's only got a 2 year warranty instead of the 3 you'd get from the stealer. But hey, 5K for an extra year's warranty? - I think not!

And to make things even better we've punted the 206 to a mate for £500 more than we would have got for trade in, which is still at least £500 less than they'd have to pay for it privately, so everyone's a winner! 8)

It's going to be an FX07....

i must be the only person that doesnt like these, the new volvo s40/v50/c30/c70 is basically a ford focus and i have to say there about as well put together as a house made of cheese, the interiors are always breaking, they creak and rattle, not a milimetre of room in the engine bay, i could go on for hours, but thats just my opinion
i would have kept the 206 but if you like it then what does it matter

I see what you meant now Dai, sorry I got the wrong end of the stick.

I think you've done well with the Focus, definately better than an equivalent Puggy, heck I think you will be finding every excuse you can to drive it for yourself. I know I would.

Yeah but she needed something a bit bigger, and we don't like the 307, the megane is shyte, the C4 has all the residuals of a house brick, I hate jap cars, VAG do some nice stuff but it's all too expensive (or still carrying a nasty stigma  ), kinda running out of options. Plus after the recent BSi episode she wanted something with a local dealer, so the choices were narrowed to Fucus or Arsetra, and I was really surprised that the Ford won (we always used to prefer the Poxhalls).
