I have been running td Citroens and Peugeots for 30 years or more and have never had a turbo fail, none of the previous ones had this extra filter so I can't see why it was ever fitted. As you say the oil has already been thought the main filter so I really can't see the point of the extra one. At least the turbo is on the front of this engine, did PSA know something?

Indeed, unless it was a warranty thing enforced by the turbo manufacturer? the 1.6 runs high boost so they might have got twitchy about future claims....

How does this plan of attack sound?:

1) drain and inspect the old oil, if it pours out like normal then proceed with...
2) remove and clean and return the little mesh filter, fill system with new oil and filter and run for 1 month
3) add Forte flush agent run through (hot) and drain the oil
4) REMOVE mesh filter and fill with fresh oil + filter

Pray....

If in step (1) nothing comes out of the sump then run for the hills. I saw the thread on FCF where the crank was caked in jelly-oil

I would remove the sump. Will give you a better idea of the condition of the engine.
You won't get the sludge out the bottom of the sump by draining the oil normally.

I watched the mechanic here remove the sump from a 1.6 HDi (broken dippy stick), that mastic's pretty tough stuff and it took him 15-20 minutes of levering and swearing. It didn't look too clever once he'd finished with it either, I still wonder if it's still leaking or they've put a new one on it since.

I know, the sump is stuck on at the factory you'd be best to have a new spare one to hand I think. And you have to leave it draining all day until the mating surface can be cleaned and dried long enough for the new gobbo sealer to set properly.

Ordinary silicone sealant makes a good sump gasket if you apply it to the sump and leave it to set overnight.

I used to run cars fitted with Perkins diesels years ago, you had to change the oil every 2,000 miles! Even then sometimes you would undo the sump plug and nothing would happen, I used to chuck a pint of diesel in the engine and then run it for a few minutes.

I just think that at the equivalent of £2000 the car looks a steal.
I wouldn't get involved with hacking away at the sump.
I'd do the 4 steps you mentioned, with the best oil and filter ( ie Purflux) I could find.

I'm guessing the DPF needs 'writing out' of the ECU? the smash-through thing I can probably cope with with Doggy's help :cheesy:

I have been charged with researching, sourcing, temporarily paying for and insuring, and finally delivering 'a small automatic car' to MIL's 100 miles away on the basis that "we hope you like it" when she sees it for the FIRST TIME

WCPGW etc...

Once we've sorted her out with another 'simple' car I'll fetch the Shitrun back here and start giving it some attention. I think.

Yes it will, I had mine done by omg tuning via the obd after everyone else told me it was a bench job. I'm not sure what the Citroën zorst setup is like but it took me 45mins to remove gut and refit.

Of course, old chap, my pleasure.....

A toothpick is too small, a digger + pecker is a bit OTT.
You need something towards the top end of SDS+ / entry level SDS Max.

BTW I have a Glof TDi owning colleague who lives in Harket Marboro, perhaps your corner of the planet has enough environmental issues already? :supafrisk:

Her_Indoors is back over there with the Shitrun car and can report she found its 'book' and it appears to have been serviced yearly which is a relief.

What's not a relief is that its picked up even more damage including a scuff in the paint which MIL thought would benefit from being rubbed vigorously with a Kitchen scouring pad   she managed to get the mark off the paint though but took the clearcoat with it [facepalm].

Seems it's prudent now to rescue the thing before anymore OMGCARPARKCHAOS

What is it with elderly people and using scouring pads on their bloody cars! My Mother drove her Focus through some water based paint many years ago. My Grandad went straight out there with a scouring pad to remove it.

For balance there's a guy I know who's 30-year old missus removed some bird sh*t from their brand-new Black Civic Type R with a scouring pad
