The air filter behind the engine is a truly awful idea on the 1.6 HDi, oh and, like last time, I lost an Allen Key somewhere behind the engine  that's probably lying on the M1 now :?

Thanks for the offer Ollie but I won't want to be modifying the air intake any further on this car.
Could be worse, I managed to crack the windscreen on the 307 trying to get the airbox lid out  which is why I picked up the C-MAX intake boot. Got rid of the car before I ever got round to fitting it.

Impressive DIY-ing Mr Welton.
I like to make a good job of things and leave them better than I found them. Always start out with that intention but reality has a habit of biting one's posterior.

Got an unexpected call from the plasterer I'd arranged to skim our bedroom walls yesterday morning, could I pick him up as his Audi had blown it's turbo....
At one point he asked if I was selling the Cistern.
He was lucky to have escaped with both arms.

2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

You're really not warming to the Shitroen are you? this surprises me a lot for some reason.

I have to say though with our C4 the ownership experience is not especially 'warm' particularly the daft gearbox and the steering wheel buttons that do many bizarre things, and that's before I mention programming* the Sat Nav or trying to convince the climate control* that it is actually baking in the cabin and we want more fan speed.

I dunno I think the 2008-2012 era of shitters is just pretty 'meh' I think if you woke up in the morning and the car was gone then a brief moment of excitement would be your gut reaction...

I think you're right, the earlier cars were much better. From 2004 until 2018 I ran a 2.0 HDi 90 Citroen Xsara estate, followed by two wonderful 406 2.2 HDi exec estates. All were really reliable, economical and a pleasure to own. My bro also had a 1.9 XUD engined estate and a couple of 2.0 HDi's that performed well.
While I accept this is a very small sample, my bro's 07 plate 407 2.2 twin turbo was a thirsty snail compared to the four 2.2 406's we had between us. The C5 is a thirsty, gutless, flat spot / hesitation afflicted ordeal of driving misery punctuated by random stalling and occasional cutting out completely.
It also won't communicate with the diagnostics unless you pretend it's a 407 and then returns very limited info.

If it weren't for their illustrious predecessors I would be convinced all things PSA are to be avoided at all costs.
