That feeling when you chip your brand new Windscreen
After 6 years and loads of chips and wiper blade scuffs I was delighted with my lovely new Windscreen (needed for the MOT).....
TWO WEEKS it lasted until I picked up TWO chips in two days
These aren't 'star' chips but tiny chinks in the glass
Oh well.

You can remove small chips in the glass using cerium oxide glass polish on a rayon pad, it takes a while (has to be used on a machine polisher) but will certainly help

I've seen that on the internet, to be fair I'm probably over reacting about two small chips. It was more the disappointment at it happening so soon.fattail95 wrote:You can remove small chips in the glass using cerium oxide glass polish on a rayon pad, it takes a while (has to be used on a machine polisher) but will certainly help

Re: That feeling when you chip your brand new Windscreen
I had two chips sorted on different occasions, and a new screen fitted in March last year. The chips cost nothing, and the screen cost me a £70 excess. On each occasion I checked with my insurer that it would not lead to an increase of my premium before I had the repairs carried out. In actual fact, my premium for the current year was around £20 less than last years.

Re: That feeling when you chip your brand new Windscreen
The guy that fitted my screen over Christmas was a bit slap dash about things, he didn't adhere the rain sensor properly so it now looks like a trapped air bubble against the glass and when I pointed out that he'd not replaced the scuttle cover properly (the corners were at least 30mm off the glass) he said "that don't do anything mate it's just a trim"......"it used to sit flush" I said.....he then huffed and got some black gooey sh*t and stuck the trim down. Being typically British I just said "thanks, that's great" and he went on his way.

When i had a chip in mine fixed the bloke told me even though it's fixed you can still pay your excess and get the whole screen replaced for things like chips and even scrapes... If it obscures your view claim... His words not mine.
Might get mine done for the sake of £75 for a £900 screen.

Re: That feeling when you chip your brand new Windscreen
I had a horrible experience with RAC windscreen monkeys. The windscreen was about a cm off where it was supposed to be, leaving gaps. The door trim was loose and had missing clips.
I phoned to complain them and got them to refit the screen properly. While I watched...
Never using them again. Not had issues with Autoglass though.

[emoji33] what sort of car have you got to have a screen that expensive? I only ever fitted a couple that expensive none of which went into a pug.scotty73 wrote:

Re: That feeling when you chip your brand new Windscreen
The guy who fitted mine told me that it was worth around the £140 mark, and that there would probably be a fitting cost of £30 to £40. It could be fitted FOC if I drove to their 'depot'.

Re: That feeling when you chip your brand new Windscreen
It might be a fancy UV reflective Windscreen like the Renner Lagooners? it may be more expensive but £900.00 does sound a lot to be fair.
