Peugeot 807 2.0HDi.... Thoughts Please

Post by Gary406 »

Hello everyone. i know i havnt been on here for a while now but life these days is very busy with working and 3 kids to look after. im hoping i can get your thoughts on a new car ive been after for a while. The Peugeot 807, 2.0 HDi. ive been to see one today on a 54 plate with 121k miles. i like the car but just worried these are a bad model ? i test drove the car for a few miles and it drove spot on. nice and smooth. its just had a new clutch and flywheel fitted in april this year. theres no recrd of the timing belt being done but at 121k miles you would think it will have been done ??

cheers Gary

Hello. Hope you're keeping well.

Skimmed a couple of reviews and they look pretty damn useful, and very nice in the upper trim levels.

As far as I can tell the "2.0 HDi" in these are the 16-valve version like what's in 407s -- which is good news -- but clearly with a different map since the power ratings are different.

Do they have a DPF?

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

ye keeping well mate thanks. im very impressed with it to be honest. they have 7 big seats with loads of legroom for all 7 seats. the kids have heater vents in the back and the rear doors are electric sliding from the keyfob.

im not sure if it has a DPF but doing a few checks online tells me they do have a DPF. is the DPF removable if they do have one ? or will that cause more issues ?

Seen a few reports of the handle on the sliding door not working, but nothing else specific to this model.

Certainly on the 2.0 407 the DPF isn't the monster that it is on the 406. The question is whether you'll do enough longer journeys to keep it happy. My current usage is a daily commute of 10 miles each way plus a motorway run once or twice per month and this seems to be enough, although if it starts a regen on the way to work then sometimes I drive it a bit further until it's finished.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

I've helped a workmate defap a Cistern C8, which is the same animal. You'll need a Galletto and nerves of steel, but not any money to speak of.

well im NOW :cheesy: the owner of a 2004 peugeot 807. with 121k miles. :cheesy: got the dreaded message on way home "clean diesel filter" but after a little research it appears they are easily removed on the 807 to clean yourself so thats a job i can tackle myself. it is a pretty big beast compaird to the 406 .
gonna give it a full service at the weekend make sure its got correct oil in etc. clean the DPF and take it for a good run as its been stood for around 4 month.

Looks very smart, hope you enjoy owning it.

You're probably right in that you can pressure wash and refit the FAP, but bear in mind that it will inevitably complain about lack of additive at some point. When that happens it will certainly be cheaper and simpler to remove the FAP than pay for an Eolys refil, counter reset etc.

You'll then be wishing you'd knocked the FAP out of it when you had it off to clean it.......

It's up to you Gary, but if you want your ecu file converting to no-FAP, just let me know.

I just filled my additive tank up with diesel! Although I never had it long enough to see if it done it any harm.

Now that's an interesting idea.

Problem is that without the additive the regen process won't burn the soot off the filter and it will get blocked.
Also, the blockage counters etc. (which are calculated and not based on measurements from sensors) will not reflect the true state of the system.
And you can't smash out the filter because the pressure across it is still being measured and will trigger a fault.
So, erm, why?

Which engine is it Gary? As far as I can tell at that age there is the familiar 8-valve 110 either with or without FAP, and a 16-valve 120 without FAP.

When the additive is used it lowers the temperature that the soot will burn at.

Only reason I filled mine up with diesel is because I do long motorway journeys so it's likely a fap would passively regenerate to a certain extent anyway!
