How exactly does a gob of spit on the outside of the door make the car unusable?

There's more germs and dirt on the outside of a car through normal driving use than there'll be on the inside of some nasty bugger's mouth.

I totally agree with fining the guy £100+ for being a gobby shite, that's just disgusting behaviour, but I really hope that the car wasn't actually taken out of service so that it could be valeted...

It's all down to Elf & Safety again innit.

In America there's a thriving industry in Crime-Scene Cleaners - folk what go about cleaning up all manner of crap because no-one else will touch it. I think this will come to the UK (probably already has) the work is out-sourced to a specialist who's done all the training etc..

Imagine, Highlander for example, some dodgy scrote came into your office and spat on your keyboard - would you reach for the cleaning stuff? I wouldn't. I'd insist the area is sanitised, with up-to 12No. swabs taken at random, grown in a culture lab for a minimum of 14 days at 33deg C, 68% Humidity, and only then would I consider sitting back at the desk to resume my compensation claim :)

Meh, keyboards are disgusting anyway. Any true germophobe would die inside if they knew what kinds of crap live in there.

I'd actually bin the keyboard and buy another one. Not something you can really justify doing with a police car, but certainly something you can justify doing with a keyboard.

Oh yeah - also, I'd make damn sure I smacked the f*cker upside the head with the soiled keyboard (granted I may wear gloves while doing that). Something the police certainly should have done with their car ...

I have considered buying ex-police cars before, and quite recently, but it does make you wonder what kind of 'matter' might be lurking around the interior. Probably no worse than a mini-cab though :|

It just seems absurd to take a car off the road because of a bit of spit, fair enough i think its disgusting to spit in a public place for no good reason, and if someone spat on my car i wouldnt take it too well, but it will wash away in the rain.
Bird sh*t doesnt wash away in the rain, but still cars can operate fine with some sh*t on them.

There was something on TV about a chap that cleans the back of police vans after people have been in them splitting, bleeding, urinating etc in the back of the van.

The issue is that if some had HIV Virus and someone else caught HIV and that could be linked together then the police would be liable.

Its wrong I know that its such a waste of resources etc, but the police are protecting themselves from getting sued.....
