Trouble Fueling up

Post by gumby6371 »

As I usually use a DERV veg mix I don't spend a lot of time at the pump fuelling my car, £20 a month is about average for DERV.

However.....

I had tokens for 20p a litre off at tesco so I thought I'd treat her and filled her with 100% pure pump diesel on friday night which is when a niggly problem I've always had with the car became a right PITA.

The nozzle doesn't seem to fit in properly when fuelling and the splash back keeps shutting the fuel off as it thinks it's full. I have to slowly pull the nozzle out until I find a spot where the splashback won't trip the pump out.

Now I don't recall having to do that on my old one but is it a problem anyone else has with there 406's?

Er no, The only time I did have a slightly similar problem was because I'd parked on the hose  It took aaaaages to fill up...

I once heard of a car that was difficult to fill up in the way you describe, eventually it was dismantled and the little restrictor piece that stop you fitting the wrong nozzle in had been forced down the tube & had turned sideways. I suspect only petrols have that because the otter has one.

Thanks Steve, I might have a look with a mirror and a torch to see if there is anything stuck in the pipe.

Like a huge glob of congealed veggie oil perhaps? there's an anti-syphon doo-dad at the bottom of the filler neck there might be some problem there?
