Help! Scratch on hire car...

Post by teamster1975 »

Afternoon gents! :)

I've had a hire car for the last 5 weeks which is due for collection tomorrow.
This morning I discovered a lovely scuff on the front os wing. No dent, just paint damage.
Is there any way I can realistically sort this myself and save the insurance excess?

Thanks very much in advance, it's £300 I could do without losing :x

I'm guessing by the fact you're asking that it's too deep for t-cut?

Get a photo on dude!

Depends how fussy they are when collecting it. I had a chap collect a loan car from our works and went about it with a bloody microscope but the car was peppered in damage so I refused to sign his 'tick sheet' and complained......they waived all charges.

It's a nice little earner for them unfortunately :x

All I can suggest is try and reduce the visual impact of it using products like Maguires Scratch-X or something. It might even be worth calling one of these smart repair places instead of loosing the £300.00 deposit.

Any way of shitting the car up so much you can't see it?

If its left a white line under the scratch maybe colour it in with felt pen?

As in put a big dent in every other panel so the scratch is insignificant?

Am I right in assuming this 300 quid is the bare minimum and if you did attack it with a hammer Father Ted style it'd cost more?

I hired a brand new Frod Escape in the US a few years back and managed to put a tiny ding in the back door, I was sweating it for the next week until it went back but they didn't even check the car over

Hope you find a way to sort it!!

Thanks everyone, sorry for late reply; I've just got back from Peterborough to collect new car!
It's black, I am very tempted to flick a marker pen over it and go for broke
I'll give your idea a go rappy, thanks for that. Too late to do anything about it now, they're picking it up between 11-12 tomorrow so I've got a bit of time.

Probably more to do with needing a sense of humour.....I get constant heckling from this bunch sometimes I go home at the end of the day in tears.

I don't let them get to me so much now though, and I've always got my 'other' electronic friends to fall back on :|

What you doing today anyway - should you be out polishing something?
