Finally fallen in love with my Mondeo!

Post by Bailes1992 »

It's taken a while with all the teething problems but today I went on a cross country blast for the first time, something which it does with ease!
Upto Nottingham to pick a new car up with my Uncle. I said behind to go pop in and see a mate of mine and drove back home.
380miles, most the time with cruise control set at "Outside lane motorway speeds" and she returned 45mpg.
That may not seem great but it's a very old engine, cast iron block and not that efficiant. When you consider the block itself is unchanged since the 80's it's very very good :cheesy:

380miles and I got out feeling like I'd done 38 miles!

I love it :D

I wonder if this love affair with this car has something to do with the "break" you're on?

About the old engine, the block on most engines are usually not much different. Isn't it the head and fuel delivery, turbos etc that all the advancements are made on?

Great to hear your enjoying the car though, good luck with it.
The roads over there seems much better than the tat we have here its either narrow country roads where a tractor is ready to pull out at any moment, or motorways. Not many places for a good drive.

Not been up that way in a while and thankfully my next trip near the M5 takes me Abergavenny down towards celtic manor then over the bridge to Somerset in two weeks time so i'll only see the M50 if i badly screw my route up

What are they up to? theres always work going on with no sign of actual "work going on" on that road.

Only thing thats changed on mine is it was availible in 1.8D form (55bhp) then the escort got a 75bhp 1.8TD. Both were indirectley injected.
Then they fitted a direct injection head for the Focus and then common rail.
So really it's much the same engine as years ago!

It's aluminium these days! You also goto compare the XUD to the 16v HDI you get now!

My 1.8 has just as much of a power gain and yet much less changed!

Given the subject line of this thread I have a picture to add, but I feel I should warn everyone first:

a) Absolutely Not Safe For Work
b) It will not be possible to "un-see" this.

You have been warned!!

I can't say that it would be something I'd normally watch :?

I was thinking along the lines of the gun point scenario, I don't think anyone in their right mind would do that for a dare unless there was an extremely large wadge of cash in it...

Hey, maybe that's how he got the Mr Tumble gig
