best mods for hdi 110

Post by Mig5 »

Not moderators but modifications! :D
Which are best value or even free? Like my shortshift, simply "shorted" with an hacksaw, no one can tell it is done and works great!
Also fitted an old powertec alu cone filter that i had from my old scoob, gives a notable psychological improvement in third gear.
Can any decent improvements be had around boost, intercooler, turbo? Have an old screw type boost controller somewhere...

Remap will take them to 140bhp. After that you have to start looking into uprating the clutch.

I popped in to see Ade the coupe breaker last Saturday (what an amazing place---though a little difficult to find) and picked up a strut brace.

If like me you rather mercilessly throw your 406 round roundabouts (it's the only way you can get round in time before the bastard lights change :supafrisk: ) then it definitely makes a difference.

Many thanks to midsdaz for the tutorial :D , but I can definitely recommend a T50 bit and ratchet in preference to a key and 8mm spanner :P although I think I've cross-threaded one of the bolts :x

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Maybe in the future, but out of my budget at the moment. I know they are considerably cheaper in the UK, but not so over here.
Have driven a remapped grandvitara ( around 135bhp) with exactly same engine and it has made a big difference (felt very lazy before!).

I did that while test driving my estate and liked the way it handled, so by then it was nearly a done deal.

From my experience of fitting them to both the 106 gti and impreza turbo, it depends on the suspension setup.

On the 406, it would only make sense with lower profile tires and maybe 17's (195x65x15 at the moment!).

I put a strut brace on my 406 LX saloon; it only had 15in alloy wheels on. Made a HUGE difference to how the car felt during cornering. It doesn't seem to have made as much of a difference to the Coupe, I think because the bodywork and suspension are a bit stiffer by default - it's still noticeable though.

The Rapier trim cars had a different trim colour - was it the Rapiers that got Ashwood trim by default? Or was Ashwood only an option on certain other trim types?

The SRi trim cars had blue trim

The SE trim cars had a silver trim

Coupes have a textured grey trim, but this only extends across the glovebox and the part under the steering wheel - they didn't have trim across the doors, and even if they did, that'd be useless for a saloon/estate anyway.

I was never really a fan of the faux-Walnut, it just looks horrible.

Thats as far as trim goes in my estate, just on dash, not across doors.
Something darker would be ok, lighter shades might not look so good.

Actually forgot that I used that genius idea of clothes peg spring in fuel flap, works great, fitted near hinge so is also stealthy
