oh dear ive bought a 206

Post by omega »

with the mot comeing soon for my car and the mrs i thought we might get stuck for a car
mine needs
rear discs, backplates, pads, calipers, handbrake cable and theres a power steering leak[maybe rack] so theres a lot of jobs to do and it looks like my sills are going to need welding as well[which i cant do] and i dont work fast and if i break something or get stuck iam lost without a car.so i decided to look about for something with some mot and tax and found this 206.its a 1.4lx on a t plate got 2 months mot and 5 months tax the body has a few[a lot] knocks and dents the worst being the front wing will try and post some pics later but the strange thing is thats its only done 42000 miles[got all the mots to prove].was parked up for 7 years as the orginal owner died and its been attacked by pond life eg door locks are abused.the worst thing for me is that it hasnt got a radio in it and i havnt got one to but in itso maybe car boot on sunday.
it also needs a back box as its got a small hole in it but it will okay
does anyone know how the trip gauge works? there is one button that changes the miles to the trip but i cant zero it
let the fun start

I'm purely guessing on the trip gauge but have you tried holding the button in for a few seconds like the 406?

Oh dear indeed!

They're nice little cars mate, the wife had one for 5 or 6 years, it was great (until the BSi packed up, then, despite the £373 repair bill she lost all confidence in the car and insisted on replacing it  ).

Can't remember how to reset the trip, but the handbook should be publicly avaialble on servicebox.

Nice motors, last of the x06 generation.

They had XUDs for a while too?

The other half speaks fondly of her old 206 she had.

I think they still sell them in Europe as the 206+!

What radio is in there mate,?
does it have alittle screen on the front.

Mines a 07 reg so its coded to the Bsi, and is the Vdo unit,

the older 206s have or had the PU-2325A which are front coded -not bsi coded iirc,

The one in the wife's old 206 was front coded, we bought it brand new from a local car supermarket but it was an "import" from Ireland. The "supplying dealer" stamp was Noel Deasy Cars in Cork, rang them up and the guy was extremely helpful, he gave me the radio code over the phone (no charge) and said that he had all the information for the car on their computer system so if I ever needed key codes or anything else, just ring.... Why can't I get service like that from my local dealers?

When I needed a code for the Xantia radio I phoned Citroen Glasgow who were equally helpful.

Shame its only some dealers and not all.

The 206 they sell as a saloon in some countries

The front codes, are not a problem idont think,

ijust go on the www. and bring down a code calculator, only takes 5 secounds to translate the code from the serial number,

Lozz, any chance you could let me know which site you use for radio codes please.
I need to do the backlights in mine and don't fancy soldering the little l.e.d's sitting in the car with it still plugged in :!:

To be honest I think anyone who has driven another member of the '6 family (106,306,406) will soon find out the chassis isn't half as good on the 206... especially if you compare it with the 106.
I hate the looks of them with a passion too, also they are everywhere here, they are too common. Very successeful cars here, but I have always thought the success was more due to the momentum brought by the huge sales numbers of the little PSAs of the previous generation (205, saxo, 106, 306...) than to the quality of them.
A couple of friends had one ad it was a little dull... less spacious than my old 106 and less fun to drive too.
