406 V6 versus Turbo

Post by =|[PsychoPoet406]|= »

I was wondering what the performance difference between the 3.0 V6 and 2.0 turbo is in real terms. In other words, I don't care what the list figures say. If the V6 is faster in real life, I want to know what cars it compares to, and how much quicker it is in a straight line than the turbo.

I'm planning on getting one you see. New job, big wage, amazing bonus structure. Imagine: a kitted out 406 V6 executive. Now that's worth getting out of bed in the morning.

Until they try to pull away from it, that is.
Sounds like me and my turbo :) May be "only" 150bhp but it can still shift, and the constant torque helps add to the humour when you see them changing gear twice as often as you are...

Hi,

My old 1.8 TD dicks boy racers (When I had it) after all they all have 1.0L fiesta’s or Corsas, and think that if you fill the boot full of speakers and slap a massive exhaust on the end, you have a rocket ship.

One boy racer I met at work decided that his car needed a paint job so to save money he went to B&Q and spayed the car him self with radiator paint, you could see the paint cracking and braking off in the car park 

The 2.2 was 158bhp and a wee bit lighter, but the coupes then were 210bhp and would shat all over a 2.2

Personally I like the turbo engine but its only a low pressure system thats not really designed for much over 180bhp with the OE cam and mapping. Its all about the torque with that engine.
If I didnt have ym turbo, Id have the VVT V6 because they sound awesome and go like the clappers.

In the mid range, say 40-70mph, my HDi surges away from most other cars, who's owners have to do a jiggy tap dance on the clutch to keep up. Mind you, since I had water/methanol injection installed, Focus STs start to lag behind once the national limit is breached (not that I would ever do or condone such a thing!).

The V6 hands down, You can never beat cubic capicity at the end of the day, The turbo engine was just a get me buy at the time and even in a 205 it's not that quick at all, Plus it suffers from the all to common XU oil surge problem where the 3.0 doesn;t :D
