It's not a Commodore 64. It isn't. It's not even compatible without an emulator, which I can download to any computer. It's a Windows-capable PC in a Commodore 64 case. It's not even cheap - looking at $250 for a bare-bones system that doesn't actually include a motherboard or processor, with the cheapest usable version being more than $600.

There's no point, except to capitalize on people's nostalgia - and I don't know about you guys, but most people who are nostalgic about a Commodore 64 would either buy an original C=64 second-hand (for a lot less) or would download an emulator for their existing Windows PC or Mac. I still have mine (albeit in a box in a cupboard somewhere - though it does still work after all these years) but I do fire up an emulator and play some games I used to play.

For £153 not bad, add an HD and a couple GB of RAM. Even put OSX86 on it if you are that way inclined ;)

It isnt a proper C64. But then the new beetle and the new mini arent proper Beetles or Minis.

If Pug brought out the 504 coupe concept, Id start saving immediately, even though it isnt a proper 504 coupe.

They were good for their time. Better sprite animations and colours and a better processor than the ZX Spectrum.

Oh come on, we're talking about a computer that first arrived on the market in 1982 and cost just shy of $600. The first IBM PC came out in 1981, had exactly the same amount of computing power, but cost $3000 - the only big advantage it had over the C=64 was that it had a floppy disk drive as standard.

I was 5 when we got our C=64 (1985), and I cut my computing teeth on it. Programming in BASIC, printing, using floppy disks (5.25") - even had paint programs and music editing software. We had a mouse with ours, too.

Yes, loading from tape was a bit cumbersome, but this was a time when storage media was horrendously expensive and low-density. Cassette tapes were widely used in the home computing market because they were cheap due to being mass-manufactured for the music industry. Besides, you could also buy software on cartridges (instant loading) and on floppy disk (not instant, but a hell of a lot faster than tape).

it had only just come out then,
My dad used to work for a company that repaired Arcade games then The pub stand up ones.
so we had one of them in the house and somediffernt game boards to change over so iwas more into them
the c64 igot bored with quickly igot the Toshiba Msx after that it was excellent,
ive had the comodore vic 20 too and the bbc micro and the spectrums ive still got them in the loft still in there boxes dont know why ikept them someone said there worth something ,

My 1st console was a binatone

2 paddles a 2 lines for the bats and a dot for the ball all in wonderfull black and white,
had hours and hours of fun on that

oh and ihad ihad something else in the late 80s it was ithink called a vectrex a console with a built in B&w screen you put coloured sheets on to the screen adifernt sheet for every game

it was brill for the Asteroids and space invaders,

idont know about getting them for a fone
but theres plenty floating about for pc

Probably. Get an emulator and the ROMs.

I have a C64 joystick you plug in the TV, has loads of C64 games but it also has a C64 system "on a chip". Some people have hacked it and plugged tape drives and keyboard in and used it as an original C64.

Oldest computer I currently own is probably the Mac Classic II.
