Parts interchangeable between D8/D9

Post by Archangel »

been thinking about this and would be good if there was a "sticky" ; a list of parts that could be easily fitted to a D8 to replace what is already fitted .
a lot of work I understand but people have already done exchanges , just need a rough list of what will fit and what won`t .

EXAMPLE; Wheels ,Nimrods 15"( 16" ) will fit ; all D9 , D8 (apologise if i`m wrong but you get my drift ? )

I was thinking (rightly or wrongly ) that if someone does an exchange/upgrade and it works ; they could PM a mod who could incorporate it into the sticky.
Could be beneficial to all especially to buyers and sellers because we don`t all know what could be used .

I `m looking at a D9 grill at the moment but don`t know if it`s fittable to my D8 estate . I like the look but dont want to buy something like that if its not interchangeable . It takes ages to find out but with a list on here for members you would know because it had already been done .

opinions ????

Reason: Changed title to explain subject better, also made sticky

Hmm, it might stop us having to tell almost every single D8 owner that a D9 grille won't fit on a their car (I asked it too )

the wiki would be a good place to make such a list

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

SE door handles will fit anything, and the airvents are all interchangable.

You'd really need 3 categories though - D8, D9 pre-multiplex (1999-2001) & D9 multiplex (mid 2001-2004). May also be worth splitting saloons & estates. Best way to do it would be a spreadsheet of some sort.

Here are what I know so far:

Front seats - fit all. Fitting electric seats into cars that didn't have them originally is a pain in the a*se.

Estate rear seats - fit all. Split rear seat can be retrofitted to cars that didn't previously have it as all mountings are in place.

Saloon rear seats - need modification if fitting D9 to D8 or vice versa.

Lower dash panels (glovebox, fuse cover etc. - fully interchangeable. Mainly of use to those looking to change grey dash to black as D8s only came with grey or cream.

Steering wheels - Coupe, estate & saloon steering wheels are interchangeable, but must be of a similar age. i.e. D8 wheel won't fit D9, D9 multiplex wheel won't fit D9 pre multiplex etc. Also pay attention to whether horn controls are on steering wheel or stalk.

Doorcards - putting D9 into D8 or vice versa requires wiring mods to allow for different window switches. Estate & saloon doorcards however are fully interchangeable.

Wheels - all interchangeable except for models with Brembo brakes. These need either Hoggar, Starfish or the flat face wheels with the oval slots around the edge (don't know the name of those).

Saloon rear lights - interchangeable between D8 &D9.

Estate Rear Lights - exactly the same on D8s & D9s

Estate Tailgate - interchangeable, with the only visible difference being the black plastic trim that runs along the bottom. D8 is plain black plastic, D9 has the chrome strip.

Headlights - not interchangeable

Grills - not interchangeable.

Front bumpers - not interchangeable between D8 & D9, nor between Coupe & Saloon/Estate.

Strut Brace - Found in Coupes, can be fitted to any D8 or D9 saloon or estate. Some say they need gentle persuasion to fit under bonnet, but fitted one to my HDi D9 with no modifications other than the longer bolts.

Intrument clusters - only interchangeable between similar aged models. D8 units will fit any D8, pre-multiplex D9 will fit any D9 etc. Obviously petrol clocks into diesels will cause inaccurate readings, but believe it or not, they do still work!

headlights are not interchangable, nor are speedometer units unless its between a d9 saloon and d9 estate, or d8 saloon and d8 estate with the pre com2000 being also a consideration.

FRONT SUBFRAME ASS

3502 P8 - gearbox ML & automatic gearbox HP20 & AL4

rear SUSP CROSSMEMBR ASS

I love sweeping statements

I suppose it would be worth comparing the hubs and other suspension parts. Maybe later if I'm very bored :?
