Surprisingly comfortable and good handling, passive rear steering.

All Peugeot & Citroen cars seem to be prone to dents. Mine looks like it's pebbledashed.

What is the "passive rear steering"? Remember years ago a friend bought a 306DTurbo when it had just gone on sale & he said that had rear steering, but I thought he was just talking sh*te at the time because the only cars I'd ever seen with it were the old Honda Preludes.

Apparantly, by means of specially designed compliance bushes in the rear suspension.

It is different to Honda style 4 wheel steering, as per the Prelude. Seems to be more under hard cornering, the wheel points a bit towards the direction of steer.

As cornering forces increased, the subframe was permitted a degree of lateral movement.

I'll have to watch out for that next time I see one getting ragged on a roundabout.

Got to admit though, it sounds like a highly technical & posh way for PSA to say that the rear suspension is bo**ocksed as soon as it leaves the factory.

I wish they'd advertised the 406 mounts like that.

HDi engine allows lateral movement.

the 406 has got good suspension, its a very lively car in the corners, wheras others have their steering tuned down so you have to turn it more, shame the handbrake is SH1T, although marketing types from peugeot will say it means the rear brake shoes have much longer life.

Last year around this time, the 406 handbrake wasn't holding at all, had to get new shoes for the MOT, all in cost £300 (and that was just after a cat+flexi which was another £300 and the mounts were still buggered).

Handbrake wasn't holding on the Honda either, in all fairness. Was probably parked in P for it's life. Tightened up the cable in the centre console, now could hold a 747 on a summit.

i consider a handbrake a luxury item very few cars ive owned have them that worked, the fiat did and it got used quite a bit on gravel yards :cheesy: but the 406s was only good in the snow for fun, and for a while it was good at hill starts needs tightened again though.

The Xantia handbrake was useless in the snow.

didnt old citroens have the handbrake on the front wheels which stopped the possibility of having fun in them.

Exactly!

Big empty car park, lined up for a snowy handbrake turn....

and it just stops.

thats a bit disapointing, did the xantia have it like this or was it the bx?
mercedeezees have a funny handbrake, a small pedal on the left to engage it, then a bulky handle on the dash to release it, no good for handbrake turns, and also my merc was an automatic, but imagine this on a manual one and attempting to do a hill start.

The Xantia had the front handbrake. Possibly the BX as well. Think the C5 became more "normal" and had a Peugeot-style regular (and useless) handbrake.

Me das 7 series has the left pedal handbrake. Was a pain first time I drove it, as I was used to a manual at that stage, going for the clutch when braking, then inadvertently putting the handbrake on

The Honda is an auto but has a regular handle.

In the Transformers animated series, Ironhide and Ratchet take the form of Nissan Vanettes, with Ratchet's version is an ambulance motif.

My dad bought a new Citroen back in '79
That had the handbrake on the dash
Someone tried to nick it one day, but abondoned it literally a few yards up the road as couldn't figure out where the handbrake was
