Re: Cheap clio for breaking

I got the clio going, a few handbrake turns and driving through the field and it cut out again in the yard, these new cars just can't take the abuse the old ones took.

i just started to disassemble the engine, got as far as the head off it, its a very dirty engine, even compared to the old tractors we have the engine is caked in oil.

What does the white on the top of the valves mean?
Another question, to remove the gearbox and engine together would mean to remove the driveshafts but they now just move when i try and undo their nuts because the engine has no more compression, is there some way to lock the driveshafts, or would it be easier to remove the whole subframe as i want to get the steering rack anyhow.

Take the 2 x 22mm bolts out the struts pull the leg towards you
and then drive shafts will come out of the box,

Near side one the gaiter is bolted too box, so just cut gaiter or remove bolts, iirc there 13mm,

White on the valves is carbon,
it will clean off,

Thanks lozz, ill give that a go, your description of these engines being like a lobser was spot on, get all the plastic crap away and they are simple enough.

What do you think all the oils about, the crankcase breather pipe was fairly clear, but the air filter was so saturated in oil it felt spongy, any chance the head gasket was on its way out?

ithink renaults are common for oily engines,

it will clean up with paraffin, or Jizer gunk etc,

Dont turn the crank pulley, with the C/h off
if the wet liners move, theyre never right again, (Scrap)

ah cylinder head,

stripping it down to basics yup, a bit of entertainment for the next few days, but it also fills a bucket with plenty of nuts and bolts, they always come in handy at some time.

No cd unfortunatley, this is the bog standard model it came with a cassette player, the head unit has the display on it, as opposed to the separate display up on the dash, but it does work with the steering wheel controls, and is decoded.

Ebays the best place, does the laguna have a separate radio display like the clio. They are a good job although it makes the radio useless in anything else, this old clio radio will at least fit nicely in the tractor, and being a renault there is even a neat place for the steering wheel stalk to click into.

It interrupts the radio, i.e. the sound? The 406 display says the door is open which takes away the radio frequency from the display but the radio still makes the same noise.

its not the same as the 406 mate, No Beep, it just cuts the sound on the radio,

not a big thing realy

worst thing is if you stall it its amare,

normal car you can just let it pick it self up in gear and it will start not this thing,
its very scarey if you stall it coming out of juntion too quick,

Must be sensors on gearbox and clutch pedal, Modern technoligy :frown:

Is that like the meganes system where you need to press the clutch in? that would be a bit scary waiting for a computer to turn the car back on.
