I remember when I was a kid my dad buried an a-series in the garden, just to get rid of it. Apparently they're getting rare now.

My mate's got a datsun 120Y buried on his farm, along with a load of white goods. Something about being a farmer, they never pay to dispose of anything, just dig a hole

Ok, when was the last time you saw one of these?

Immaculate, apart from the ding in the front vallance. I used to have one of these, went like stink but had appaling brakes.

They were never really that popular were they? I think they were too pricey at the time (what? a VW too pricey?) engine choice was either 1.6 or 1.8 I think and I seem to remember a weird gear stick??

I think the Capri was more the weapon of choice at the time :|

We ran loads of VW carb' engines in the late 80's in my first job and I regularly got sent here there and everywhere in Golfs and Passats (even a brand new F reg Golf GTi in 1989 8) ) the engines were superb and economical unlike the Sierra

My first car was a 1976 Golf 1.1L but I'd rather not discuss that

History from Scirocco register. There were quite a few on the road but I think they were a bit unnecessary considering the Glof did everything people wanted. The brakes always left much to be desired because the rhd conversion didn't seem to work quite right, (it's rather like the rhd 406's so it surprises me no-one complains about the conversion on yours). I remember seeing a mark 1 in the breakers with not one but two Girling Powerstops on it. Worst of all, the 16valves only came in lhd (I saw one on the road here a couple of years back) presumably, like the brakes, there wasn't enough room under the bonnet, unlike the Glof.
