That Rav is the same as the one we had at work, albeit a manual, and the throttle response had the same urgency you describe. I think it's just the 'perkiness' of petrol.

Good luck with checking it over and make sure you know why that EML it lit :frown:

I was hoping for more input on that from the Toy otter owner's klub but the site's been down since last night - just my luck

Dammit, I was hoping to make some lunch but Goran just called - lunch is cancelled because I have to go and look at this highly desirable stupid tractor thing in half an hour. Bumholes :(

Grumblegrumbolegrumble I could buy 2 good coupes for that money grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

It's been up on the ramps (needed the tracking doing anyway), there are a few knocks and scraps but it's not leaking oil anywhere. New winter tyres are Blizzaks (cost a fortune, believe me), the spare (on an alloy) has never been on the road. The eml had gone out, the mechanic hooked it up anyway but no fault was logged and he reckoned it wouldn't be important if it wasn't. So it was ball in my court time. I took it for another spin up the road and, you know what? I was starting to get the hang of it. It's still a clunky truck but, well ok, I've driven worse (Transits). 10,800€ and it's (almost - paperwork, paperwork) mine. Let's just repeat that - ten thousand and eight hundred Eurines. Feck    The wife had better bluddy drive it!

Of course, all the sodding about, driving it up & down the road and not a peep but the moment I started it up after dropping the owner off bing! engine management light and something I didn't have a clue about - VSC? Back to the workshop and this turns out to be Toyota's equivalent of the good old "Antipollution System Defective" message  Hilarity ensues as Goran starts to explain that this doesn't mean a specific fault, it's just... (I must get some t-shirts printed). Anyway, the code reader says (da-dah!) Catalytic converter. ARGH!!! Turns out it's the fuel he's been putting in it, not the damn sensor, it just don't like the fuel from the wrong gas station :( :(

Investigations will continue, meanwhile it's having all the fluids changed, filters, spark plugs (blimey, they got rather expensive!!) and the brakes checked out, plus possibly a new clutch cable 'cos I still think it's too stuff.

I've no idea what's going on with the eml, it might be a lambda sensor going down (there are 4...) I'd rather dents than poor repairs Btw the one in the back is the only one in metal, all the rest are plastic. Dents in running boards, pfft. I won't bother for a while anyway 'cos the wife will probably make some new ones. I'm actually thinking of getting an el cheapo spare wheel cover off ebay or something 'cos I'll bet that one is stupidly expensive to replace and she's bound to reverse it into a tree/wall/house/old dear.

The anal beads will have to go, mostly because I want to see what sort of bodge job was done on them. If possible I'll probably replace them with something not available in a sex shop.

I think you've done the right thing there. I'd heard there are 4 x Lambda's, one for each cylinder  it makes for good fuel economy and even running but I guess they're sensitive to fuel quality and short runs etc. I suppose it won't hurt to slosh in some additive every few fill ups or something.

Thinking about it, when we traded in the works RAV with the bad slushmatic ECU the dealer guy saw the EML light and said "probably just an emissions fault" so maybe it's fairly common.

I'd deffo bin those silly lights, hopefully you'll find the proper footwell light somewhere and stick with that.

Glad you're getting somewhere now though.

Buggered if I know :( It turns out not to be a 2005 but a 2004 and the other set of wheels turned out to be just another set of tyres, so I still need to locate another set of wheels. He'd only drop it 200€, still I guess this a whole lot better than a 2001 that needed 5 new tyres for 9000€. Also, when Goran was checking prices for me he was looking at stuff like brake pads, disks, clutches etc. but now it turns out this stupid tractor needs many litres of oil in all its various gearboxes, and all the most expensive imaginable. And spark plugs that cost about 30 quid each. Oh, and the mechanic investigated the clutch cable today, I was thankful it wasn't hydraulic but I got a text earlier - it bluddy well is :( :(

Me and this car are never going to be friends :frown:

Fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffflip :( It turns out the super stuff clutch is it wearing out, the guys on the forum say it could go on for years like this, unfortunately my knee can't so I've ordered up a new clutch. It's a wee bit more expensive than one I've seen on ebay in the UK including the postage but then there's customs duties, which would make buying it from the UK ludicrously expensive. Other than that, we've changed engine oil, filter, plugs & cabin filter & the guys have changed the rocker cover gasket today 'cos one of the coils was oily. Clutch and aux belt are scheduled for Wednesday. We had the front wheels off yesterday and the front brakes are almost new (as are track rod ends, drop links etc.) but the feed on the lift was too short to get to the back and, between this and fun and games on the VR6 ambulance, I think Goran had enough. Oh, and the battery went flat

Btw if anyone ever asks you to time up the chains on a VR6 run away screaming - what a pig! Autodata's telling them to line this wheel up with that mark and... there isn't one. One thing that doesn't help is Autodata is in English but Krešo and Mika don't speak any and Goran doesn't know enough of the technical jargon. I asked why they didn't call me because I'd be glad to help but "we didn't like to bother you" Additionally, while they've been doing this, the clutch slave cylinder has given up and (you won't believe) the slave cylinder and release bearing are all one expensive bit - imagine a long release bearing with the hydraulic line going in to it. Off with the gearbox. Again.

This morning I had to clear the link pipe that goes between the wood burning boiler for the central heating here and the chimney, it's a meter long 6" stainless pipe and this morning was completely full of soot - there was less than 2" left for the smoke to get through. Now the chimney sweep, who made this chimney, told me that I shouldn't have to take the link pipe off but there is no other way of cleaning it. Yeah, ok, he has a brush on a stick which obviously does feck all :frown: We only called him in because I'm not up to cleaning it myself because we long since realised he was full of s...oot. Btw a chimney sweep is a respected profession here, they cover patches that only they work, have their own uniform complete with beret and when you see one you're meant to touch a button for luck. I think I'll be touching cloth instead. Anyway, I had to remove this from behind the boiler and maneuver it out between all the pipes, it weighed a ton and my back was not pleased :(

And finally, I've had the results of my latest blood test - the trinitroglycerines are just above normal but cholesterol is even higher than it was before I started the diet :( So I must go see the quack, who will give me some pills, and they will damage my liver or kidneys or something, but it's that or lightly spread polystyrene for the rest of my life

Not on Autodata they aint (BKK 3.2 if it makes a difference). I didn't see any gold-plated links either and I had quite a few close up looks at it. Seemed like you had to line up the marks on the crank sprocket with the casing, then line that up with the sprocket on the oil pump shaft, then line that up with both camshafts (which are locked) while holding the reluctors fully clockwise. The problem seemed to be the oil pump shaft, there weren't any marks to line it up to. You'd have thought all you needed to do would be line up the crank to the cams and an oil pump is just a pump so who cares where it points? Obviously it mattered because it just wasn't right. Oh, and while I was tidying up the wiring after they'd binned the lpg (gaffer tape ffs  ) they thought it would be funny to start it up without warning me. Tw@s

Nice pic  I'll have to translate it for them...

I don't remember seeing that on Autodata but it could be because I was looking for timing marks that didn't seem to exist. It's going to be sunny smiles all round if the problem was moody chains  I'll tell them tomorrow
