And here we are at Ashford Eurochunnel terminal, where our bargain* price crossing is going to be 10 mins late setting out due to 'unforeseen capacity restrictions'
Great trip so far, average speed 63 mph, 57.7 mpg.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Well, now we've arrived in Strasbourg after a good trip barring about 20 miles of stop-go traffic around Luxembourg City.
Aircon behaved perfectly - just as well it was between 35 & 38C all across France Belguim etc.
Latest stats 53.4 mpg average 58 mph 8)

We did Dorset to nearly John O groats in the '70s before they built the new A9, took us 23 hours, you can do it in about 14 hours now plus stops but we usually stop in Carlisle overnight now. The roads are a lot better but there is so much more traffic.

Continuing Doggy's Brentry adventure......
Today, we crossed into Germany. The faithful 406 has been interned at Dachau, "for you, the drive is over".
We've swapped to a motorhome so I can practice holding up German traffic.
Now contemplating our first night of roughing it, in Munich.
The aircon's still working, which was a godsend today with miles of stop-go traffic. Looks like they're renewing all the autoroutes in Southern Germany right now.

Enjoy your trip. My latest 406 is the only car with working aircon I have had for a long time, been glad of it the last couple of days but it doesn't seem like we shall be needing it much more. :frown:

I asked someone once why they needed to tow a little car behind their Motorhome and they explained that once you've 'camped' the thing and got all your plates, cups etc out then you can't drive it anywhere without packing it all away again. Hence the little car, I hadn't thought about it before

Normally a Smart ForTwo, thereby taking all the street cred you had* from motorhome ownership, and throwing it away.

It is a good idea though. I did see someone towing a Lotus Elise behind a motorhome.
2002 (D9) Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2.2 litre Petrol. Scarlet Red/Rouge Ecarlate/Rosso Scarlatto. Black Leather interior. SOLD :(
2008 (E60 LCI) BMW 525i M-Sport, 3.0 litre Petrol. Carbonschwarz Metallic. Black Dakota Leather and Myrtlewood interior.

I saw quite a few like that in the US, mostly Glofs I think. Reminds me of a dingy being towed behind a bigger boat, for going to the shore or whatever.

Most of the (Austrian, German, Czech etc.) motorhomes you see here have a couple of pushbikes tied on the back.

This thing wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding - it's a 2.3 Fiat Ducato under the skin, loaded to about 3.5t kerbweight. Sprightly it isn't.
(I'll try and post a pic later if my 1€/day infonet connection holds up).
Stopped near Munich last night, now we're by the Bodensee - check out http://www.campingplatz-gohren.de
Just heard about the shootings in Munich from our concerned kids, I'd already decided to keep clear of city centres and the like before this.

I've just seen that on the news here, glad you're miles away.

I had to Gurgle Bodensee, aka Lake Constance, looks lovely - enjoy!
