So what do you do?

Post by eoin27 »

Its quiet on the forum today so I might aswell start a new topic. What do you do for a living? Understandably, some people wont like to give info on the compnay they work for so thats ok.

Im a recent graduate and I have a job with w5 Marketing Intelligence as a Research Executive. I started about a month ago and I am currently contracted to Bord Gais Ireland as a Customer Relationship Analyst. I deal with customer surveys and take care of the monthly reports and compare them to recent months years etc. A little boring but I want to make a career from Marketing Research in the long term.

I'm a Network Analyst working for a big well-known American energy services company at their UK headquarters here in Aberdeen. I won't mention the name (again) because the urine will once again be extracted by other forum members (you know who you are :cheesy: )

My three colleagues and I look after the network for the UK, Continental Europe, West Africa, the Caspian Sea region, and Russia. We also provide VPN connectivity to down-well monitoring units stationed on various vessels and oil platforms in the Irish Sea and the North Sea.

We also work heavily with Cisco IP Telephony using Cisco Unified Communications Manager 7.1(3), aka Callmanager, and across our region we support in excess of 3,000 physical IP phones and hundreds more softphones (Cisco IP Communicator). As we're a hub location, we have a very diverse range of Cisco equipment to work with, and multiple types of circuit connecting this datacentre in this building to sites all around the world. It's a lot more interesting and a lot more fun than working on an IT helpdesk, which I did for 7.5 years before joining the Network Team back in December 2006.

Was a nightclub DJ for about 13 years, had the work come to a crashing halt when one of the customers said some unpleasant stuff to stop her boyfriend finding out she was a tart.
Then went into CCTV/Alarm installation. Then i had a disc problem crop up and had surgery to fix it, but it didn't work. Couldn't get up and down ladders all that well (kind of useful when fitting cameras!)
After that i fell back on pc/laptop repairs and car mechanical work. And now i've got carpel tunnel in both hands, yay! (got to sit in the hospital with electrodes on my fingers, was weird to watch my hands twitching without telling them) Been to see a surgeon and after her examination, she thinks there could be damage to the cubital tunnel nerve too (funny bone), meaning that i could need four operations to sort it all out.
Had to stop the pc hardware repairs when i dropped a customers computer, on their doorstep. Still fiddling with cars when capable, turned into the tea-boy for most of the time though.

I'm a reporter for 'Gay Times' magazine.

I also do a little bit of modelling work (briefs, boxers, that kind of thing) although I'm looking to give that up before the summer.

Oh, err, I'm sort of "retired" - I used to join bits of wire together for BT until they offered me a large bunch of cash to eff off, so I paid off the mortgage, rented my house out (to my dad, no less), moved to Croatia and bought a house I no longer live in. I'll never be rich but I do more-or-less what I want all day. (This might have to change if the pound keeps doing lead balloon impressions though :( )

Ever "collected" any tiny joke cars Puggy?
