Another year, another MOT

Post by Blubayou »

Hi Guys,

I rarely post nowadays as my car is just so damn reliable (should I have said that???). Any ways it's on 114'000 and just flew thro' another MOT.

The tester commented on what a nice old car it is, will it be a classic soon?

This got me thinking, as mine is one of the youngest on here & so far shows no rust.

Where is it likely to start on these cars so I can protect it now before it takes a hold.

Until then, here's a pic taken today in the sunshine.

Hi, the only problems I have had is along the front of the bonnet and behind the black plastic tape under the windows, the tape bubbles.
If it doesn't fit you need a bigger hammer

Congrats! :cheesy: Although really they should pass these without looking :supafrisk:

As above, front edge of bonnet (flood with waxoyl or that POR stuff which is meant to be better). Sills, the drain holes tend to be blocked and, if you loose a clip from the seal that goes along the bottom of the door, the water floods in and has nowhere to go, other than through the metal.

Same colour as mine. Nearly all the bonnets are rusty at the front, I just squirt some oil in there, stopped mine dead.

Thanks for the tips & complements guys.

I seem to remember squirting oil around the bonnet & tailgate edges when I first had the car, it was a well known trap then, so I've just done it again!

I need to investigate the sills, thinking along the lines of squirting something oily / misty in.

Has anyone tried bunging up all the holes & driving around a few miles with a litre or so of oil sloshing around inside the sill?

If you can spray it in with an oil gun it gets nicely distributed but even removing a treadplate screw and squirting it in with an oil can is pretty effective, especially if you do it in warm dry weather, it will creep all round the inside if you put enough in, saved many of my sills from premature demise.
