Not that unusual - I put a deposit on a Y-reg 2.2 GTX with 293k on the clock and a verifiable trail of MOT and service receipts proving it added 180k in the space of a month. I didn't buy it cos the clutch failed before I picked it up. 
Researched the problem at the time, found several (mostly V6) owners had the same problem diagnosed by the stealers......

'Isolated incident, the manufacturer has no reports of this fault'
That's why I always go to the main dealer.

I bought mine with 188,000 on it, now has done 231,000 and never missed a beat except when the driver compartment flooded. Nice looking car though.
