is this correct

Post by chili »

as a couple of you are aware my clarion unit in my 406 is buggered.

i can get another from scrappy for £45 maybe £30 if i haggle. i then phoned peugeot main dealer to ask how much to have radio coded to the car £26 they said i then told them i will not have the code for the radio that it asks for when first powered up. they told me.........

if the radio asks for a code that you have to put in manually then the said radio does not have to be married up to the car. he advised me to go to loacl car radio place and get it decoded, plug in and use as normal.

can anyone else confirm if this is correct ?

thanks

From what I understand (info from a main stealer) - the NEWER radios are coded to the ECU so the car needs to go to them for the radio to be sorted - the older radios just ask for the code

I'm almost sure that the one's where the code needs to be entered can just go in any car, so you'll be ok, just need the code.

mine is a d9 v reg.

today i drove to dover and my pug radio seemed fine, soon as i got near bloody canterbury it started to play up and was not able to get a fix on the local station's :(
so i pulled the bloody thing out and stuck my kenwood in, guess what....the reception through that is not much better ? so now i am begining to think it is just the car itself.
when i had the kenwood in my mondeo it was perfect reception the only thing i have not changed is the aerial coax from roof to radio, and to be honest i doubt if i will go down that road.

gonna put my original unit back in as it looked more asthetically pleaseing to the eye when the centre all matched up, oh also it did not ask for a code so i assume it is set to the cars ecu

i have just read that these pug roof aerials are powered ones and that there is another connection behind glove box, has anyone been there and seen this connection ?

well went to the scrappys today and tried his radio, his radio done the bleep bleep bleep bit and picked up radio 1,2,3,4, and kent. both his radio and mine did not detect the local radio station which i find puzzling.

the main differences from his radio to mine was that his also detected and played cds and also you could hear static between stations. if i tuned mine to nothing you heard nothing....no static, so all in all i think his would of worked, however i did not pay £45 for it nor would he come down, it would then cost a further £26 to code it to the car :( and also i'm lucky if i use my car more than 2hrs a week (yes 2 hours)
